North American Migration
10,000 years ago Natives from Asia crossed a natural ice bridge. At this time North
America was uninhabited by humans. Three reasons people came to North America was for
food, a new climate, and a new life.
10,000 years ago, Natives were following herds of animals. These animals include wooly
mammoth, caribou, reindeer, and moose. They need these to survive. The hide kept them warm
and out of the rain, the bones and antlers could be for tools. These animals were food sources
which also helped build the population. The natives would domesticate these animals which
helped build small villages and towns.
The climate also had an effect on the Natives crossing the ice bridge. This natural land
bridge is called Beringia. Beringia was made of solid ice which connected asia to Alaska. It froze
over because this was the period of our most recent Ice Age. In Asia everything was very cold so
the natives either got kicked out, called forced migration, or were looking for a new climate.
The natives wanted a new life too. Another reason they crossed the ice bridge was that
they could have been forced out. This is called forced migration. They could have also done it
just for the curiosity of seeing what is across there. This curiosity could have drove them to
follow the herds and get to North America.
A new life, new climate, and food were the reasons why people came to North America.
The origin of population for the western hemisphere was dependent on those Natives from Asia
crossing the ice bridge.
