Highfield House, West Lothian

davidblaikiearchitect highfield house, kirknewton This garden room extension replaced a delapidated potting shed that was in iminent danger of collapse. The client wanted a year-round room that allowed greater interaction with their south west orientated, well tended garden. Our solution was to form a masonry sheltering wall on the south side of the extension to protect the room from the adjoining busy road and prevent overheating in the summer. This masonry element is separated from the original stone house by a frameless glazed slot. A lighter, timber and glass framed construction emerges from the shell to allow visual and physical connection with the garden and to form a sheltered terrace along the Ground Floor Plan Rear Elevation rear of the house. 10 deanhaugh street, edinburgh, EH4 1LY t - 0131 332 1133 m- 07764 195480 e - studio@davidblaikiearchitect.co.uk w - www.davidblaikiearchitect.co.uk
