1) High frequency ultrasound was used to measure skin thickness at the proximal ventral and dorsal forearms and deltoid region of 99 adult volunteers to determine maximum penetration depth for intradermal drug delivery devices. 2) Skin thickness measurements were taken and averaged, and differences between gender, age and BMI groups were assessed. 3) Significant differences in skin thickness between men and women were found for all regions measured, while skin thickness correlated with BMI but not age. Thicker skin was found at the deltoid region compared to the forearms.
