HERLOCHER’S DIPPING MUSTARD TO BE FEATURED INTO PENN STATE MAIN
CAMPUS DINING FOR FIRST TIME
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — In grocery stores all across the country, anyone can find a familiar
Herlocher’s Dipping Mustard’s golden yellow jar and remember their unforgettable college days at Penn
State.
The Herlocher family for decades has solidified that association, and now years later after the brand’s
national expansion, the dream is returning home.
On Tuesday October 20th
from 5pm-7pm, Herlocher’s fat free, gluten free, and salt free dipping mustard
will premier in Penn State’s Dining Commons as part of their “Campfire Favorites” themed dinner that
includes Hot Dog The Ripper, Kimchi Dog, Potato Salad Herlochanise, and Herlocher’s Baked Beans.
Although this is the first time that the product has been featured in Penn State’s dining halls, Herlocher’s
has been a part of the Penn State community for decades. In the 1970s through 1980s, current Herlocher
Foods President, Neil Herlocher, said that his family served the mustard in restaurants around the area.
February of 1978 was when the brand made their debut in the Train Station Restaurant, a classic and
popular spot in the area at the time (it is now Big Bowl, Penn Kebab, McClanahan’s…etc.).
“It started off with us serving mustard and pretzels to people as they sat at the bars, and then once they
realized they loved it, we expanded the product past restaurants and started to package the mustard,”
Herlocher said. “Now we have our products in stores and restaurants nationwide.”
The incorporation of the mustard into the dining commons comes at a pivotal point in time, as people
have become more health conscious. Penn State’s Dining Commons continues to work hard to provide
the best health options possible for its students and Herlocher’s makes health concerns simpler.
“Because Herlocher’s Dipping Mustard is a fat-free, gluten-free, and salt-free mustard, it has plenty of
health benefits,” Jim Richard, Interim Director of Pollock Dining Commons said. “Not to mention it
tastes delicious while being an healthier option.”
Bill Laychur, Penn State’s Corporate Executive Chef also gave the dipping mustard high praise, “What is
so great about Herlocher’s is the fact that it can be used with a lot of versatility and I look forward to
seeing how the students react to these featured dishes.”
Herlocher’s looks forward to being an integral part of the Penn State student community and hopes to
continue building the longstanding relationship between the university and the brand.
“There are so many Penn State alumni that swear by our mustard and it serves as a symbol of their time
here,” Herlocher said. “We are excited to introduce current students to our product and family and hope
they take us along their life journey with them.”
