Heracles had to complete twelve labors as assigned by King Eurystheus. His first labor was slaying the Nemean Lion which had an impenetrable golden fur. He strangled the lion and used its claws to skin it. Later labors included slaying the nine-headed Lernaen Hydra and the man-eating Stymphalian Birds, which he defeated with arrows tipped with the Hydra's poisonous blood.
