Helen Keller was born in Alabama and became blind and deaf from an illness as a young child. She learned to communicate by having her teacher Anne Sullivan spell words into her hand. Despite her disabilities, Keller accomplished much in her life including getting an education, traveling, and meeting famous people. She overcame significant challenges with her disabilities to become a celebrated figure.
