First aid provides immediate temporary assistance to injured or ill people until medical help arrives. It aims to save lives, prolong life, alleviate suffering, and prevent further injury. First aiders should remain calm, observe the situation carefully, use available resources tactfully and sympathetically, and act as a bridge between the victim and medical professionals until a physician takes over. Proper first aid includes staying calm, reassuring the victim, checking for medical conditions, loosening tight clothing, keeping the victim covered, and avoiding giving an unconscious person food or drink or moving severely injured people.
