Headmaster’s Reference for Christopher
1. Headmaster’s Reference for Christopher
Christopher has chosen to study Business Management at degree level. I am
confident that this field of study is well suited to his intellectual abilities and
character. I have known Christopher for many years now and am currently
taking him for ‘enrichment lessons’ which involves discussions on ideologies,
ideas, current affairs and life in general. During these years I have had plenty
of opportunities to learn about Christopher’s merits as a character and as a
student.
In my lessons Christopher’ presence is always noticeable, because of his
attentiveness and excellent, sensible class participation. Recently I gave his
class a session on how the stock market works and set everyone an
assignment to invest an imaginary £10,000. Two weeks later I was most
impressed at the good sense employed by Christopher. His judgement led to
his making a profit (again imaginary, of course) even though the markets
during this time had been falling! This example is to emphasise not his
business acumen, but the soundness of his judgement. This is typical of
Christopher. He has a clear, logical mind, with a very strong sense of what is
practical which enables him to work well. He has that excellent ability to
quickly distinguish between major and minor aspects of a problem or
issue. Such qualities will stand him in good stead when he goes on to
university and of course in his future career.
He has taken part in all the school’s major events. He can cope with his
academic work load while finding the time to engage in key extra-curricular
activities to enrich his own life as well as that of his school.
Christopher, has for the last three years, (since he was 14 years old!) been in
charge of the school’s sound equipment and their use during all our events
such as the weekly school assemblies and various musical presentations
throughout the year. Such is the trust we have in him. A very unusual young
man to say the least. He has a team of four other boys whom he manages to
perfection. Top class leadership qualities.
I and the music teachers have learnt to rely on Christopher’s advice not only
when we need to buy new equipment, but also as to what price we should pay
for them. I trust his honesty and capabilities to the extent that he has access
to the school credit card so that he can arrange the purchase, discounts and
delivery of whatever sound equipment we need. A privilege which no other
pupil has ever had in my 25 years at the school - but again a true reflection of
his exemplary qualities.
Here again I would like to emphasis his ability to manage his time so that he
not only enjoys taking care of this particular responsibility, but he does so
without neglecting his academic studies as you will see from his predicted
grades.
2. Christopher believes in getting involved. He is definitely not a spectator. He
is one of our most reliable students and regarded by all of us as a dependable
and conscientious person. Even at this young age, he has become a most
sophisticated young man. So polite and pleasant.
I have the greatest respect for Christopher as do the other members of staff
and for this reason he was appointed Head Boy. He is the classic Head Boy
in that he did not need to rise to the occasion, but rather behaved like a Head
Boy well before his appointment. Very pro-active, but without irritating those
around him. He works with a dignified thoughtfulness and his trade mark is
his smile. Whatever he is asked to do he does so with a cheerfulness which
sets the example for others to follow.
He has always been punctual and regular and enjoys excellent family
support. I have every expectation that he will be a credit to whichever
university he may join.
