CV Huw Jones
Abilities
I am a highly conscientious and understanding advocate for people with mental health and/or learning
disabilities and very able to maintain a professional rapport with numerous other professionals having
honed my skills for over 30 years. I am organised, self-disciplined and able to work under pressure of
target attainment whilst remaining aware of the need for quality of work. Needing to make quarterly
reports to my employers & attending regular supervision. I am very much a team player respected for
my empathy, listening skills, openness and experience of life. No one has ever been more dedicated
to the task in hand that I have.
I am quite proud that I have only taken 4 days sickness in the last 10 years despite what some might
consider advancing age.
Achievements
In the field of voluntary work I have given much of my personal time helping a school to deal with a ¾
million pound budget, as a citizens advocate I helped radically change my partners life in relation to his
network of friends, improving his service, helping him to move to better accommodation and even
improving his choice of what he eats as a diabetic. I was a committee member and trustee of
Person2Person Citizens Advocacy for some 10 years.
As a Mediation Officer I helped several families and neighbours in dispute to have a better
understanding of each other whereby they have since been able to live together peacefully.
As an Apheresis volunteer I attend the blood bank at The Royal Glamorgan Hospital monthly for some
2 hours where I was physically linked to a machine via syringe which draws blood, removes
antibodies then returns the blood. Only some 5% of persons who give blood can do this and I was
privileged to be one of those people. I made over 70 donations before I stopped for reason of family
needs.
Since entry to the workplace in 1975 I have made a conscious effort to improve myself not only for my
benefit but for the benefit of others via training, experience and work choices.
