SAMBAZ OIL NIGERIA LIMITED
HAZARD IDENTIFICATION AND CONTROL
PROCEDURE
PURPOSE: To ensurethat SAMBAZ OIL follow a formalprocess for hazard
identification, risk assessment, and controlto effectively manage work place
hazards.
PREAMBLES: Any organization conducting a business has obligation under the
work health and safety Act. 2011, to manage risk to health and safety so far as is
reasonably practicable. A risk management approach involves identification, and
assessmentof risks followed by elimination of risks in the firstinstance, or where
these is not practicable minimizing those risks so far as reasonably practicable.
The risk management approach is important for 3 main reasons;
-To take care of company workers as partof the legislative health and safety
requirements.
- Out of concern for health, and safety of workers.
- Itmakes good business sense, and is cost effective.
A key requirements of managing risks in work placeis consulting with workers
affected or exposed to such risks.
SAMBAZ OIL workers willbe involved in the hazard identification, risk assessment,
and controlprocess.
SAMBAZ OIL workers mustconsult, cooperate, and coordinate their risk
management activities to ensureeffective management of health and safety
matters.
Work place hazard identification, assessmentand control is an ongoing process.
Itshould be undertaken at various times, including;
 If it has not been done before.
 When a hazard has been identified.
 When a change to the worksitemay introduceor change a hazard existing.
SAMBAZ OIL NIGERIA LIMITED
HAZARD IDENTIFICATION AND CONTROL
PROCEDURE
 As part of responding to a worksiteincident even where no injury has
occurred.
 Where new information about a risk becomes available or concerns about a
risk are raised by workers.
 Even at regular scheduled times that are appropriateto the worksite.
Itis often more effective, and easy to eliminate hazards if risk management
approaches used at the planning, and designed stages becomes doubtful.
The process for risk management is a practical guide for helping make workplace
safer for workers.
Itwill help both management, and workers through frequentconsultation to
comply with regulations which requires workers to identify, assess, and control
hazard in worksites with the aim of eliminating or minimizing hazard to
reasonablelimits.
This procedurewill assist in:
- Finding hazards in workplace.
- Assessing therisks that may result fromthese hazards.
- Determining control measures to eliminate or minimize the level of the
risks.
- Monitoring, and reviewing the effectiveness of the control.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Effectiverisk management requires the commitment of
everybody.
Itis the responsibility of all managers, and supervisors to ensurethat this policy is
fully implemented, and to consultwith workers as part of undertaking the hazard
identification, risk assessment, and controlprocess.
In Hazard identification the following steps are recommended;
- Pastincidents/accidents are examined to see what happened, and whether
it could happen again.

HAZARD IDENTIFICATION AND CONTROL
PROCEDURE
- Workers areinterviewed on what they consider safety issues, asked if they
encounter hazards or near miss on their work.
- Identified hazards should be documented to allow further actions.
- Information aboutequipment, and MSDS be reviewed to determine
relevant safety precautions.
- Welcome creative thinking about what could go wrong, or what hazardous
event could take place there.
RISK RANKING MATRIX: This is a tool used to assess the likelihood and the
severity or consequences of each hazard, and to give a RISK RATING.
RISK RATING MATRIX:
