A high school photography class led John Harrelson to a 33-year career in motorsports photography. He has won the National Motorsports Press Association Photographer of the Year award three times, most recently in 2014. Harrelson credits his high school photography teacher Bruce Watson for encouraging him to pursue photography. He now works as a track photographer at several major racetracks. Away from the tracks, Harrelson runs a successful photography business. While honored by the recognition, he remains driven to continue improving his craft.
