Tsvetan Usunov from OLIMEX Ltd presented their work on developing an open source hardware, do-it-yourself modular laptop. The laptop will use a 64-bit ARM processor and be lightweight, modular, and easy to repair/upgrade with low cost spare parts. It will run Linux and be open source so users can modify it to their needs/tastes. They have made progress on hardware prototypes, mechanical parts, and software support and aim to have a working prototype by July and first kits available by September after further testing. Developing something as complex as a laptop has taken longer than expected but receiving open community feedback has helped.
