The importance of Community Participation for Post-Disaster RehabilitationMadhavi D Vitharanage
This document outlines a research study on the importance of community participation in post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in Kathmandu, Nepal following the 2015 earthquake. The study utilized mixed qualitative and quantitative methods with local community members. Key findings included that the needs of the local community were not fully addressed in the reconstruction process and that community members were not satisfied with the opportunities given to participate. However, community participation could help improve the process through contributions like lobbying, empowering local leadership, and increasing transparency. Constraints to participation included lack of good governance, information, and community division. The conclusion calls for addressing these challenges to effectively involve communities in rebuilding.
This document discusses various research methodologies used in psychiatry research. It defines key terms like research, thesis, dissertation and describes different types of study designs - descriptive studies, surveys, case studies, correlational studies, case-control studies, cohort studies, randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews and meta-analyses. It also discusses formulating hypotheses and key steps in designing a research protocol like recruiting participants and addressing ethical considerations. Overall, the document provides an overview of important methodological concepts and approaches used in psychiatric research.

EWRC 2017: Idea 2 - Public Participation in EU Policy (Examples)Mathew Lowry
This document discusses methods for public participation in European policymaking. It provides examples of participatory approaches that have worked well, such as Estonia's Rahvakogu citizens' assembly and Antwerp's participatory budgeting process. It emphasizes that participation methods are most effective when used at the right stage of the policy cycle and when citizens can see the impact of their input. It also stresses the importance of distributing conversations widely, continually improving processes, and demonstrating that citizens' ideas were used and useful.
EWRC 2017: Idea 2 - Public Participation in EU Policy via RegionsMathew Lowry
This document outlines a proposal to widen participation in EU policymaking. It proposes a multi-stage process of: 1) local idea campaigns soliciting input, 2) local events to discuss top ideas, 3) selecting delegates to represent regions at the European Week of Regions and Cities, 4) an online conversation period for delegates and stakeholders to refine ideas, and 5) delegates participating directly in the EWRC before a final Committee of the Regions opinion is published. The goal is to give citizens recognition and influence by bringing their perspectives into Brussels-level discussions and policy outcomes.

The document describes a content management system for cross-European Commission sharing and publishing of content. The system allows content from different sources and languages across the EC to be dynamically published on portal themes and subsites. It provides a single interface for publishing news, events, funding opportunities, consultations and other content types. Content can be shared not just within the portal but to other EC sites as well. The system also supports publishing newsletters on different topics and formats that users can subscribe to through a single subscription interface using a single user account. The content management system is designed to be forward compatible so it can be reused if the portal is relaunched with a new site by integrating the system, mapping taxonomies, and migrating

HijackLoader Evolution: Interactive Process HollowingDonato Onofri
CrowdStrike researchers have identified a HijackLoader (aka IDAT Loader) sample that employs sophisticated evasion techniques to enhance the complexity of the threat. HijackLoader, an increasingly popular tool among adversaries for deploying additional payloads and tooling, continues to evolve as its developers experiment and enhance its capabilities.
In their analysis of a recent HijackLoader sample, CrowdStrike researchers discovered new techniques designed to increase the defense evasion capabilities of the loader. The malware developer used a standard process hollowing technique coupled with an additional trigger that was activated by the parent process writing to a pipe. This new approach, called "Interactive Process Hollowing", has the potential to make defense evasion stealthier.
