Twitter Cards are call-to-action buttons with included descriptions that encourage Twitter users to perform an action. These actions are: email sign-up (lead gen cards), clicks (website cards), app installs (app cards), as well as cards for articles, video, and audio streams that are not yet available to small business-level accounts.
2. What are Twitter Cards?
Twitter Cards are call-to-action buttons with included descriptions that encourage
Twitter users to perform an action. These actions are: email signup (lead gen
cards), clicks (website cards), app installs (app cards), as well as cards for articles,
video, and audio streams that are not yet available to small business-level
accounts.
Twitter Cards can be attached to any tweet, making it easy to vary the copy and
test different methodologies.
Here’s what they look like:
Lead Generation Card – Lead Generation
cards allow Twitter users to sign up for your
email list with a single click. The email address
is added to the ads backend which you can
download in CSV format whenever you’d like.
Website Card – Website cards are
used to drive clicks to a specific
webpage – a landing page, a
booking engine, a blog, etc. It can
also be used to track conversion if
you opt to include a conversion
pixel in your website’s code.
App Card
App cards are used to encourage downloads and
installs of desktop and mobile applications.
3. How to Create a Twitter Card
1. Log into your twitter ads account by going to https://ads.twitter.com and
signing in, or by clicking Twitter Ads in the drop-down menu
2. Once you're in the Ads backend, you can create a Card by going to the
Creatives drop down menu and selecting Cards
3. Cards allow you to add Call-to-Action buttons for specific objectives in Twitter as
well as additional copy. For what we're doing today, we created a lead gen card,
but you can also create website cards to drive clicks to a website, for app
downloads, and more. They all operate on the same basic principles.
4. 4. Here’s what the backend looks like:
The feather-and-quill icon will allow you to compose a tweet using the card, the
pen allows you to edit it, the plus sign allows you to copy the card if you want to
make another with different copy or imagery, and the little box with arrow allows
you to download your leads in a CSV file. For website cards, the interface is the
same without the ability to download leads (since it doesn’t collect them).
HOT TIP: Once you've created cards, you can use them over and over again with
different tweet copy. Composing a tweet in this view will allow you to do organic
lead gen without spending money.
5. You can also create a campaign based on your card from the Twitter Ads
dashboard, as below:
5. 6. This is what a card looks like in the backend. You get a short description, an
image (800X200 pixels minimum) and can create a custom call-to-action button.
You also need a link to a privacy policy (we used what you already had on your
site) and a backup landing page (which we also linked to) in case the tweet
doesn't work for whatever reason.

Then, whatever tweet copy you have goes in the space above where it says (The
card for your Promoted Tweet...). When a user clicks the button, their email info
automatically goes into the database in Twitter Ads. Et voila!
