1. The Health Appraisal Questionnaire (HAQ) and Medical Symptoms Questionnaire (MSQ) were developed in the 1980s and 1990s as clinical and marketing tools to assess patient symptoms and health status.
2. While the HAQ and MSQ aim to provide a comprehensive overview of a patient's health, they have not undergone rigorous validation studies. The MSQ draws from the validated SF-36 Health Survey but is not itself validated.
3. Without validation, the ability of the HAQ and MSQ to reliably and accurately measure patient health as intended cannot be determined with high certainty. Validation involves comparing a tool to a gold standard and examining its consistency.
