Selena Quintanilla was born on April 16, 1971 in Lake Jackson, Texas. She was a singer, songwriter, actress, dancer, model and designer who became the best-selling Latin artist of the 1990s, selling over 18 million albums. Some of her accomplishments include being named Billboard's Best Selling Latin Artist of the Decade for the 1990s and winning "Female Artist of the Year" at the Tejano Music Awards for 9 consecutive years. She was tragically shot and killed on March 31, 1995 at the young age of 23.
