The Internet: Connecting the World, Suppressing the MindFenton Isaacs
It is very clear that while the Internet is connecting our world, but it is also suppressing our minds. What we are faced with here, is a situation of finding balance. We want to be able to fully utilize the online and digital worlds to our advantage but we need to refrain from becoming dependent on them or negatively changed by them.
Videos are increasingly being used to support student learning with students either viewing videos or participating in the production of videos as part of their studies. This webinar will showcase two case studies from different parts in Europe (Finland & UK), where video is used to support, improve and activate students' learning.
Our first speaker Janne Länsitie from the Oulu University of Applied Sciences, Finland will discuss a recent international hackathon-style event titled the Educational Video Challenge that brought teacher education students together to co-produce educational videos.
Janne will be followed by Morris Pamplin & Martin Agombar, both Educational Technologists working at the Multimedia and Innovation Learning Lab (MILL) of the City University London, they will tell how they are supporting academic staff to create high-level video based learning resources in different subjects such as Engineering, Law & Health Sciences.
The webinar will focus on the key question of: how are university-level students & teachers currently using and producing videos to support their subject area?

Reflective Practice in Schools - Some QuestionsJames Penstone
Context: first used for a workshop at Bangkok Patana School as part of the FOBISIA Heads' & Senior Leaders' Annual ConferenceNovember 2014.
The blurb for that workshop read as follows:As we encourage our students to develop reflective practice, we as educators also recognise the importance of self-reflection as part of our own professional learning and growth. In this workshop, James will deliver a short presentation introducing some of the main issues at stake with regards to integrating reflective practice into whole school improvement. Participants will share their school’s own experiences with others. The main learning outcome of the session will be to have an understanding of how schools might tackle some of the complexities involved in leading reflective practice amongst staff.
It is partly comprised of other people’s images which I have credited. In the same spirit of sharing as those whose work I’ve borrowed, this presentation by James Penstone is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.0 UK: England & Wales License.
An Informed World - Awareness Through Social Mediab_swift
Social media is an excellent platform to spread awareness of causes and gains funds for projects. It is becoming an extremely powerful tool. Despite critics, the knowledge and information it spreads is always helpful. Donations cannot be made unless people are aware of the project, and there is no better way to spread awareness than through social media.
Presented at Southwest Workshop Days in Durango CO October 2009: Sustainability, or going green, is more than a buzz word but the way we must all embrace the future to meet the triple bottom line: equity, the economy and the environment. Libraries are meant to be the center of their schools, campuses, and communities drawing together diverse entities & disciplines, acting as catalysts for exploration and as models for their community. This session will explore the politics, behaviors and partnerships required for libraries to influence, educate and model the idea of going green. Some tips on how to get started on going green will also be shared and discussed
Digital Pedagogy as Transformative Digital Humanitiesanitaconchita
This presentation discusses the role of digital pedagogy in transformative digital humanities praxis. It will offer steps for designing digital assignments and assessing them by employing the digital humanities ethos of collaboration, experimentation, and play. Such assignments can be ideal for a critical liberal arts education that asks students to critically engage with the social justice issues of their contemporary moment.
Nesta apresentação, veremos como a Sociedade do Conhecimento mudou drasticamente o propósito da Sala de Aula. Veremos também, quais as atitudes necessárias para que Professores possam desempenhar o papel fundamental neste novo modelo educacional.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
