Students of Primary
School of Kallianos
introduce their
country and village to
their eTwinning
partners
Greetings from Greece!
Let’s introduce ourselves! We live in Greece. The country’s capital
is Athens.
Acropolis is its most important monument. It was built in 436 B.C.
It was an ancient temple.
Another big city of our country is Thessaloniki.
The White Tower is its most important monument. It was built
around 1450 A.D. and it was used as a prison.
Our school is situated at Kallianos village.
The village is built on a hill and it is quite underpopulated. Houses are far
from each other. They can be barely visible from some distance.
In order to reach our village, the road comes through the
mountain Ochi. During the winter there are rock slidings very
often, the road closes and cars cannot pass.
The school is really small. We are 6 students and one
teacher.
It has a classroom …
… and a teacher’s office.
We don’t have a playground in the schoolyard.
But we have a great view. There’s a mountain at the
opposite side.
It is very beautiful when it snows. It snows almost
every year.
We like very much to play with the snow in the schoolyard!
When weather is bad, power and phones may be out of service.
Once there was not power for three days! Our moms were cooking
on the stove!
If there is no power and the sun is shining we may do our lesson
outside because it’s really freezing in the classroom.
10 minutes from our school is the beach. The waters are crystal
and it is very clean.
There’s an anchor at the bottom of the sea. It is said that a pirate
ship sank many years ago and tones of gold were lost close to
this beach and that this is its anchor.
When the summer comes, we go swimming!
There is also a river that flows into the sea.
Almost every habitant of our village is a breeder. They breed
sheep, goats or pigs.
The nearest city is about an hour from our village, named
Karystos. Habitants go there often for shopping, go to the bank
and pay the bills.
The most important landmark of Karystos is a big
castle.
Karystos is built by the sea. It is said that this castle was
protecting people from pirates.
