The document summarizes the state of the jQuery project in Fall 2010. It discusses how project funds have been and will be spent, including on server infrastructure, developer time, design work, and conferences. Governance rules and a contribution path for new developers are being formalized. The copyright for a book is being transferred to the project. A CLA process and store selling t-shirts have launched. jQuery 1.4.3 and related plugins improved performance, modularity, CSS, and the development process. Finally, jQuery Mobile is a new framework to build sites for all mobile browsers and platforms.
1) The document discusses rapid testing and development through minimizing the feedback loop via static HTML, automating interactions, mocking external dependencies, and automated UI testing.
2) It demonstrates tools like MockJSON and Mockjax for mocking requests and UITest for automated UI testing directly in the browser.
3) The key is to master your tools and editor to be a rockstar developer through optimizing the feedback loop for productivity and enjoyment.
This document discusses frontend architecture patterns for large development teams. It begins with an introduction and then covers server-generated frontend, separated frontend, micropages, and portal and widgets patterns. For each pattern, it describes characteristics and pros and cons related to issues like loose coupling, development speed, testing, reusability and performance for large teams. Continuous integration challenges are also discussed. The goal is to help designers choose patterns that balance autonomy, modularity and integration for large frontend codebases.
The days of Javascript being restricted to a few lines of inline code to drive a UI state change are over. Modern web apps now include reams of JavaScript (or TypeScript, CoffeeScript, etc.) to create robust, responsive UIs. But sophisticated code means more surface area to test and debug.
This talk focuses on the dev tools at our disposal to quickly triage issues and find their root causes.
This document provides an overview of the Vital UI Kit, which includes tools and frameworks for UI/UX design, responsive web development, and cross-browser/cross-platform compatibility. It discusses the components of the kit such as Sketch, Photoshop, JavaScript, CSS, Gulp, NPM, Bower, Angular, and Cordova. It then explains how to install the kit using Node.js, NPM, Gulp, and Bower, and how to develop using tasks in Gulp for compiling Sass to CSS, Jade to HTML, and live reloading. It also covers production builds that minify files and optimize images and stylesheets.
This document discusses CSS custom properties and the CSS Properties and Values API. It provides an overview of CSS custom properties, how they allow defining custom properties which can be used as variables in CSS, and how this enables dynamic styling and theme switching without reloading the page. It also discusses the CSS Properties and Values API for registering new custom properties and their values in JavaScript.
jQuery Chicago 2014 - Next-generation JavaScript TestingVlad Filippov

BBUI.js is a JavaScript library that allows developers to create BlackBerry apps that look, feel, and flow like native BlackBerry apps. It uses HTML fragments without <head> or <body> tags to create screens. Screen functions like bb.pushScreen() and bb.popScreen() are used to navigate between these screens. Common UI elements like buttons are created without using <button> tags. Initialization involves including the BBUI.js and CSS files, adding an event listener for the webworksready event, and calling bb.init() to set up default styles and behaviors.
The document summarizes the keynote presentation at the 2012 jQuery Conference about recent and upcoming developments with jQuery.
The presentation discussed:
1) The role of the jQuery Foundation in supporting the jQuery project and community.
2) Recent releases of jQuery Core, including version 1.8 which focused on modularity, performance improvements, and deprecating unused code.
3) Plans for upcoming major releases, with jQuery 1.9 continuing to clean up APIs and jQuery 2.0 removing support for older browsers to simplify the codebase.
This document discusses strategies for adding features to jQuery plugins without causing bloat. It suggests using metaplugins that handle cross-browser compatibility issues and provide core functionality. Wrapper plugins are also proposed to extend existing plugins through extension points like callbacks. The document uses the Treeview plugin as an example, explaining how an AsyncTreeview wrapper plugin was created to add Ajax support by wrapping the Treeview plugin instead of modifying it directly. This allows features to be added modularly without changing the original plugins.
The document discusses testing jQuery code using Q-UNITTesting and creating a chat through a server to test responses on both sides. It also mentions creating a guestbook working with CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery as well as working with jQuery AJAX code.
The jQuery Foundation coordinates work on the jQuery project, including code, documentation, infrastructure, and events. It is a non-profit organization funded by conferences, donations, and memberships. The Foundation maintains jQuery and related projects like jQuery UI, jQuery Mobile, and QUnit on GitHub. jQuery 1.x continues to support older browsers while jQuery 2.x supports modern browsers, with both versions maintaining API compatibility. Major releases in 2012 included jQuery 1.9 in January and jQuery 2.0 in April.

Superpower Your Apache Kafka Applications Development with Complementary Open...Paul Brebner
Kafka Summit talk (Bangalore, India, May 2, 2024, https://events.bizzabo.com/573863/agenda/session/1300469 )
Many Apache Kafka use cases take advantage of Kafka’s ability to integrate multiple heterogeneous systems for stream processing and real-time machine learning scenarios. But Kafka also exists in a rich ecosystem of related but complementary stream processing technologies and tools, particularly from the open-source community. In this talk, we’ll take you on a tour of a selection of complementary tools that can make Kafka even more powerful. We’ll focus on tools for stream processing and querying, streaming machine learning, stream visibility and observation, stream meta-data, stream visualisation, stream development including testing and the use of Generative AI and LLMs, and stream performance and scalability. By the end you will have a good idea of the types of Kafka “superhero” tools that exist, which are my favourites (and what superpowers they have), and how they combine to save your Kafka applications development universe from swamploads of data stagnation monsters!

Measures in SQL (SIGMOD 2024, Santiago, Chile)Julian Hyde
SQL has attained widespread adoption, but Business Intelligence tools still use their own higher level languages based upon a multidimensional paradigm. Composable calculations are what is missing from SQL, and we propose a new kind of column, called a measure, that attaches a calculation to a table. Like regular tables, tables with measures are composable and closed when used in queries.
SQL-with-measures has the power, conciseness and reusability of multidimensional languages but retains SQL semantics. Measure invocations can be expanded in place to simple, clear SQL.
To define the evaluation semantics for measures, we introduce context-sensitive expressions (a way to evaluate multidimensional expressions that is consistent with existing SQL semantics), a concept called evaluation context, and several operations for setting and modifying the evaluation context.
