Are you going to introduce a whistleblower hotline to your business? This presentation covers policies, and internal/external considerations you'll need to make note of
1. Managements today, in their hunger for success and appreciation of shareholders equity tend to forget the core essence behind the words in their vision and mission statements, corporate social responsibilities, duties towards employees etc. A whistleblowing encourages honest culture, promotes transparency, establishes clear communication within and outside the organisation, and keeps the key individual from abusing their powers.
2. Whistle-blowing bolstered by the provisions of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act is not only become a tool seen by regulators when it comes to leaving penalties but is a core pillar of a compliance program.
3. Though Whistle-blowing has been seen for snitches and glory seekers, it has undoubtedly become a symbol and tool to promote integrity.

Handling whistleblower complaints a global perspective for north american c...Case IQ
After last year’s award of more than $30 million to a foreign whistleblower who provided key information leading to a successful SEC enforcement action, it’s clear that whistleblowers don’t need to be in the home country to reap the rewards of their actions. Last year’s award was the largest by the SEC to date and the fourth award to a whistleblower living in a foreign country.
Considering the possible implications of a complaint that goes to the SEC or DOJ, it’s in every company’s best interest to handle internal whistleblower complaints effectively, no matter where they come from.

Controls that are designed to mitigate the risk of fraud are not perfect. Enterprise software such as Oracle and SAP may have built-in controls, but they are limited in scope to the data and processes that the software "touches". The most successful fraudsters know how to exploit interfaces between different processes and systems. Furthermore, the typical fraud case persists for 14 months prior to detection*.
Deploying data analytics for continuous testing can overcome many of the limitations of traditional fraud detection. Timely and appropriate detection will help organizations mitigate the impact of frauds. Robust fraud detection systems will also act as powerful deterrents.

Etude PwC sécurité de l’information et protection des données (2014)PwC France
The document summarizes the key findings of the 2014 Global State of Information Security Survey conducted by PwC. It finds that while organizations have made improvements in security, they have not kept pace with today's sophisticated adversaries. As a result, many rely on outdated security practices that are ineffective against current threats. The survey also finds that security budgets and detected incidents are increasing, but costs per incident are rising as well. Leaders are more proactive in security and better able to detect and understand incidents. However, more work is still needed to address issues like mobile security, cloud services, and the growing insider threat.
This document discusses the importance of developing health informatics professionals to improve patient care. It notes that medical errors cost lives and the NHS each year, and that information technology can help address these issues and improve processes. However, it states that technical expertise alone is not enough - professionals also need clinical knowledge to design systems that support care delivery. It identifies issues such as a lack of career pathways, low pay, and insufficient training and development opportunities. It advocates professionalizing the field through registration, accreditation, and national strategies to address these challenges and realize the benefits of health informatics.

Big data in the real world opportunities and challenges facing healthcare -...Leo Barella
The Healthcare system will be target of major disruption more than any other industry in the next 10 years.
The Digital economics and increasing demand by consumers for more real time information in order to make better decisions on who they want to "hire" to perform services for them or in their behalf will be the driver of this disruption. Analytics, Big Data and Machine Learning will lay the foundation for the next generation of healthcare yet there are still many challenges to truly revolutionize the healthcare system end to end (Providers, Pharma, Payers)
The document discusses the digital health agenda and strategy for collecting, aggregating, and analyzing patient data across the NHS. It makes the following key points:
1) The NHS interacts with over 1 million patients every 36 hours, and the goal is to capture data from each interaction, convert it to digital format, and aggregate it.
2) This aggregated data can be analyzed to generate knowledge that improves patient outcomes, addresses sustainability challenges, and enhances the healthcare system.
3) A digital maturity program called "Paperless 2020" provides the strategy, which includes standards for data sharing, security, analytics and other domains to realize this vision.

The guides contain specific recommended practices that organizations can implement, along with examples and references, to enhance EHR safety. The document emphasizes that optimizing EHR safety requires a multidisciplinary team approach and engagement from technology vendors. The SAFER Guides are intended to help organizations proactively address EHR safety issues.
The document discusses how companies can build a data-driven culture by engaging employees. It argues that becoming data-driven happens in three stages - focusing first on technology, then talent, and most importantly transforming the corporate culture. Two key factors are needed for cultural transformation - strong leadership from the top to establish a vision, and bottom-up employee engagement through training, incentives and making data accessible and relevant to employees' daily work. Companies that are truly data-driven report better performance, innovation, collaboration, and employee satisfaction compared to those that are not.

Working with data is a challenge for many organizations. Nonprofits in particular may need to collect and analyze sensitive, incomplete, and/or biased historical data about people. In this talk, Dr. Cori Faklaris of UNC Charlotte provides an overview of current AI capabilities and weaknesses to consider when integrating current AI technologies into the data workflow. The talk is organized around three takeaways: (1) For better or sometimes worse, AI provides you with “infinite interns.” (2) Give people permission & guardrails to learn what works with these “interns” and what doesn’t. (3) Create a roadmap for adding in more AI to assist nonprofit work, along with strategies for bias mitigation.

6. Uncertainty: The human impact
Corporate integration: Big business rules all.
Companies get bigger and more influential - the biggest have more influence than
some nations. Brands span many business areas.
Business fragmentation: Small is powerful.
Large businesses lose their dominance as customers seek relevance and organisations find
scale a burden rather than a benefit. Social bubbles and affinity groups take on a new
importance. Many could not exist without digital platforms
Collectivism:
Fairness and equality
dominates.
The common good prevails
over personal preference,
e.g. collective responsibility
for the environment, social
good and “fairness” over
individual interest.
Individualism:
Where “me” first rules.
A focus on individual wants; a
response to the infinite choices
available to consumers.

17. PwC's point of view on Safety Analytics
Safety has been a laggard when it comes to the adoption of data analytics
There are relevant organisational / operational data sets still typically not being utilised
There are a range of different analytics techniques that could be used for greater insight
18. Organisations are consciously moving up the analytic capability
curve, leveraging trends in reporting, modelling and new data
On the journey to being more analytically mature and evidence based, organisations transition from descriptive “look-back” reporting to
analytics that tries to understand “why” things have happened, and eventually into trying to predict and optimise what might happen. This
journey is often enabled through empowering the organisation with more sophisticated and automated reporting capabilities. This
democratisation of data creates head-room for the analytics team(s) to leverage a wider range of modelling techniques and to enrich and
augment their traditional data sources.

The system is safe The system is not safe of itself
Accidents happen because of unsafe acts/rare
deviations from the plan
Accidents happen when resources are not enough
to deal with the demands
Variability is a threat Variability is inevitable
People are a liability Only people can adapt, absorb and respond to
emerging threats
Procedural compliance is mandatory Success comes from people being able to adapt
successfully
How can we change people? How can people be supported to succeed?

25. Benefits of a compliance plus workplace
• Reduced human error and improved communication as an
outcome of good workplace practices
• Increasingly democratised workplaces – case studies South
West Airlines, Kaiser Permanente
• Better levels of engagement
• Increased innovation
• Improved productivity and sustainability
The technical is undeniably important but so are the social, psychological,
emotional and spiritual factors – the human factors
26. Creating and sustaining a thinking workplace
• Encourage commitment to the big picture - your shared
purpose
• Respect for all is a core practice, not just a value
• Increase involvement and participation, through genuine
engagement
• Create an environment in which collaboration is valued and
rewarded
Premise – thinking workplaces are safer and healthier
27. Creating and sustaining a thinking workplace
• Develop processes for coordinating people’s efforts
• Clarify expectations, together where-ever possible
• Think beyond the presenting problem or symptom
• Encourage autonomy and self responsibility
• Build capability to deliver on your health and safety goals

28. Practical ideas
• Create mechanisms to share information and practices –
through process and structure
• Establish joint problem solving teams
• Consider offering literacy programmes
• Link recognition and reward to health and safety solutions
and improvements
29. Practical ideas
• Use exemplars, case studies and success stories to paint a
picture of what good looks like
• Form communities of practice with peers to problem solve
and share best practice
• Promote peer review and peer audit processes – critical

35. Blue World in 2030
Big company capitalism rules.
Organisations continue to grow
bigger and global corporates
take centre state.
Consumer choice dominates.
Individual preferences trump
beliefs about social
responsibility.
A corporate career divides the
haves and have-nots.
A new breed of elite super-
workers emerges.
Blue World workforce
Exceptional talent is in high
demand, employers secure a core
group of pivotal talent by offering
excellent rewards
Buy in flexible talent and skills as
and when they’re needed.
Human effort is maximised

37. Green World in 2030
In the Green World, corporate
responsibility isn’t just a nice-to-
have – it’s a business imperative.
Social responsibility and trust
dominate the corporate agenda
with concerns about ‘Fairness’
and sustainability becoming key
drivers of business
Workers and consumers demand
brands that do right by their
employees and the wider world.
Green World workers
Workers are attracted by organisations they
admire.
Competition remains intense for the best
talent; financial reward is still important.
Workers have to reflect the values of their
employer – both at work and at home.
Carbon footprint and social impact is
strictly controlled.
The idea of a ‘job for life’ returns to the
workplace lexicon.
Green World technology
Automation and technology
are essential element to
protect scarce resources and
minimise environmental
damage
Used extensively to replace
the need for travel, driving
rapid innovation in
communications technology
Technology is a double edged
sword it allows organisations
to meet their ethical and
environmental agenda, but at
what cost to humans?

39. Red World in 2030
In a world with few rules, ideas
– and speed to market - rule.
Organisations and individuals
race to give consumers what they
want. Specialist and niche profit-
markers flourish
Innovation outpaces regulation.
In the Red World today’s
winning idea might be
tomorrow’s court case.
Digital platforms give outsized
reach and influence to those
with winning ideas
Red World workers
Innovation and people are
inseparable in the red world.
Organisations stripped-down and
nimble. A small number of ‘pivotal
people’ with outstanding skills
command high rewards.
Like-minded workers gravitate
towards each other, aided by
technology, sparking bubbles of
innovation.
Projects quickly flourish, evolve and
resolve and specialists move rapidly
from one to the next.
Red World technology
Technology encourages the
creation of powerful, like-
minded, cross border social
“bubbles”
Businesses find new ways to
serve niches and individual
preferences powered by
technology and big data.
Digital platforms match
workers with employer,
capital with innovator,
consumer with supplier.
This allows serial
entrepreneurs to reach far
