Emmetri Beane suffered a brain aneurysm and two strokes 16 years ago that caused short-term memory loss and left her unable to work. She lost her job, husband, and had to move to a rehabilitation center. Through assistance from the Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitation Services, she obtained disability insurance and attended a brain injury program. After years of recovery and regaining abilities like walking, she got a job at Rappahannock Goodwill Industries through her counselor. Goodwill promoted her from clerk to specialist after a year, giving her support to showcase her talents again.

2. Emmetri Beane is an attorney and a
wife, working towards a second
master’s degree before the age of 35.
16 years ago Beane suffered from a
brain aneurysm, This was a life
changing event for Beane.

3. Months later Beane had two strokes
that left her with short-term memory
loss. She lost her job and her
husband, she had to move to a
rehabilitation center as her family was
unable to take care of her.

4. In 2004 Beane was referred by
the Virginia Employment
Commission to the agency Virginia
Department of Aging and
Rehabilitation Services. Beane was
able to obtain Social Security
Disability Insurance and was sent to a
brain injury program at Woodrow
Wilson Rehabilitation Center.

5. Beane had a set back at her recovery,
beane was diagnosed with epilepsy.
From 2004-2009 Beane started to
walk again, she felt one of her
accomplishments had been achieved.

6. Beane’s counselor got her a job
interview for Rappahannock Goodwill
Industries, Bean interviewed for the
follow-up clerk position, Beane got
the job. Goodwill emobidied there
mission and showed Beane care.

7. After a year Beane was promoted
from clerk to specialist. Goodwill has
given Beane the ability and support to
showcase her talents.
