The ancient Egyptians had many gods that represented important concepts. The most important were Osiris, the god of life, death, and fertility; Isis, the mother goddess and wife of Osiris; and Horus, the god of power and war who was the son of Osiris and Isis. Other major gods included Ra, the sun god; Amun, the king of the gods; and Anubis, the protector of the dead. These gods were often depicted as having animal heads and symbolized powerful forces of nature that the Egyptians sought to control and appease through rituals, worship, and offerings.
