New Testament Survey no.13: Paul - His Letter to GalatiaClive Ashby
As part of the New Testament Survey Course, Session 13 provides an overview of the letter of the Apostle Paul to the churches in the region of Galatia. (This is part of the New Testament Survey Course taught at Harare Theological College - 2016)
In Ephesians 6:1-4 Paul gives excellent advice how how children are to respond to their parents, but also how parents should raise their children. This is a great study to use in small groups with parents. Download the PowerPoint presentation at www.Bibleguy.org
In talking about the humanity of Christ we must not rely on our reason alone rather we look in the eyes of faith so that we may see the truth clearly. On the other hand, we cannot separate the reason and faith for they must go hand in hand.
As St. Augustine says, faith seeks understanding. Moreover, scripture presents to us the evidences to prove the humanity of Christ. This will be our guide to have an idea on the life of Christ. In addition, the truth by which our early fathers of the church passed on to us will be part of this topic. The error of the teaching of some early Christians will also be included.
With so many things pressing for our attention we as children of God must put God first. If we are to be His disciple He must come first. Both audio and slides can be enjoyed together at www.cmcoc.org

Emotions operate on many levels, physical and mental, and they bridge thought, feeling, and action ; they affect many aspects of a person our lives. Emotions round us out, as we are more than our thoughts, perception, reason, or memories. Understanding and identifying emotions so we can express them effectively is key to a healthy life.
Christian believers must know there place as a child of the Most High God and know that we have been given authority in the earth in the name of Jesus. This is a great introduction on this awesome topic. Learn the 3 must a believer must use to walk in victory.

This prayer model is from the book "The Hour That Changes the World". The author presents 12 sections of prayer that if practiced for 5 minutes each would accumulate an hour of prayer a day for the development of a habit of prayer. Eventually, once the habit is developed, a more intimate, personal prayer devotion can be created. Very useful for those who want to know how to pray.
From President Russell M. Nelson’s talk from October 2016 General Conference, with portions of President Kevin Worthen’s January 7, 2020 BYU Devotional
One of the greatest miracles that Christ performed on this earth was the resurrection of Lazarus from the grave, depicted in the gospel of John Chapter 11. By doing so, many of the people’s eyes were opened and they believed that Christ was in fact God. So who was this Lazarus?
A couple weeks ago we talked about the season of famine, which as we know, is an extreme scarcity of food and in a spiritual sense, scarcity of the word of God. For this lesson we turn our focus to the season of drought and the importance of groundwater during this arid time, speaking first in common terms and then breaking it down spiritually to help you gain a better understanding as it pertains to your salvation.
We are living in the days where great faith is needed to survive in this world. I often cringe when I look at the news. What do we have to look forward to? Today, we face a volatile economy, with the dow plunging more than 2,300 points on this past Thursday and deemed to be the worst day on Wall Street since 1987 (they are said to have rebounded from the plunge). There is a global crisis, a pandemic, as the coronavirus outbreak continues to spread, topping out at 125,000 cases globally. The world is in a sheer panic with consumers buying items such as, toilet paper and hand sanitizer in bulk and major events, schools and entertainments venues shutting down. As for our political climate, well, Trump is our president. I will leave it at that. Violence and Sodomy, as we know, continues to run rampant. Not to mention the natural disasters we face. This list goes on and on.
Our God is indeed a merciful God (PS. 136), showing compassion and goodness to the righteous and wicked alike.
The fact that we woke up this morning, that we have a roof over our heads and food and drink is a testament to God’s daily mercy.
More importantly, we have His grace and truth, that is profoundly a testament of His mercy.
When we pray, we come before the mercy seat of God, asking for His forgiveness with daily petitions for ourselves and for our loved ones and even our enemies.
We cannot live without mercy, therefore, let us further understand what it is.
The act of enduring mental, physical or emotional discomfort or difficulty for a prolonged period of time with patience and spiritual integrity.
The endurance of insult, abuse or mistreatment without waver from the truth.
Not easily provoked.
Tabernacles and Ingathering are celebrated simultaneously as the third of the three great feasts commanded to be kept by God. This feast is held on the fifteenth day of the seventh month to the 22nd day after all of the harvest has been gathered in. The first and the eighth days are Sabbaths and holy convocations.
The Day of Atonement is held on the tenth day of the seventh month. It is our most solemn day of the year. It is a holy convocation and Sabbath of rest. We fast on the Day of Atonement and offer prayers for ourselves, our families, our church, the lost tribe of Israel and all of God’s saints throughout the world. Israel was commanded to afflict their souls, to fast, to bring an offering and to rest.
What is the day of Trumpets and when should we keep it? This sacred day is held on the 1st day of the month of Tisri. On this day the children of Israel were commanded to have a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation and Sabbath of rest on the first day of the seventh month. The trumpet is a symbol of God. The trumpet is a symbol of the voice of God, (Leviticus 23:23-25, Psalms 81: 1-10).

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

6. LETSTALK ABOUT PEACE……
• All of these emotional states or conditions can
impact the peace that we are supposed to radiate
day in and day out.
• What is true peace according to God’s standards?
• We say it every Sabbath because it is a part of
the law,
• “Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be
called the children of God, “(Matthew 5: 9).
• We know it to be a fruit of the spirit,
• But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
longsuffering, gentleness, goodness,
faith,” (Galatians 5: 22)
7. PEACE IS………
• A state of calmness and security one feels
in life because his or her faith/hope in
God.
• The ability to fight disquieting or
oppressive thoughts that jeopardize your
spiritual well being.
• Maintaining harmony in personal relations
with your family, friends and strangers.
8. HOWTO OBTAIN PEACE
• To gain peace of mind, spirit and soul, you must do
so through obedience to His law.
• Only through obedience can you develop a bond
with God accompanied with the assurance that
though you may face trials and tribulations, you
maintain a sense of peace because you have hope for
better days on this earth and ultimately in heaven.
• Ask the Lord to grant you peace through your daily
prayers.
• Listening to spiritual music or singing praises to God,
can aide in giving you comfort and peace, on a
physical, mental and emotional level.
• While in my car, I listen to church songs in between
patients. It helps me cope throughout the day and it
keeps me calm.
9. PEACE STARTS WITHYOU
• As with all things spiritual, peace starts with you.
• We are liken to a temple (I Corinthians 3:
16-17).
• Consider this. A temple is holy. It is God’s
dwelling place.
• We want God to dwell with us. To become
one with us.
• When that is so, we begin to take on His
characteristics, His attributes, including that of
peace.
• The Lord is also known as the “God of Peace”
in the scriptures (IThessalonians 5: 23)
10. PEACE STARTS WITHYOU
• When we have peace within ourselves it helps us
to better manage our emotions, particularly that of
anger, sorrow and anxiety so that we do not sin.
• When your emotions get the best of you, when
you lose control…it can be liken to a house
subjected to a violent storm.
• We don’t want our emotions to cause us to waver
from the truth or to knock us down.
• Instead, we must be like the wise man who built
his house upon the rock (Matthew 7: 24-27). That
rock is Jesus Christ.
• Consider the song lyric from,“When the tempest
rages, I shall not be moved.”
11. PEACE INTHE HOUSEHOLD
• If you can maintain peace from within, then you
will be able to show forth peace to your loved
ones within your home.
• We must make every effort to not cause
confusion through our actions or words.
• Do not be deceived. Offensive words can
sometimes be just as harmful as a physical blow.
Words leave emotional scars and can remain a
permanent memory of a loved one. James
warned us about the tongue in James 3: 3-10
• When offenses come, we must turn the other
cheek and remember that a soft answer
turneth away wrath, (Matthew 5:39 & Proverbs
15: 1).
• Use discretion. When you anticipate or foresee
that certain words or actions could result in
conflict or trouble then you should avoid it.
12. PEACE INTHE HOUSEHOLD
• Don’t intentionally start arguments.
• Now arguments are inevitable. So when
arguing with a loved one, resolve it and do
so quickly and peaceably.
• Sometimes you have to swallow your
pride. You do not have to have the last
word.
• Forgive one another and move forward.
• For spouses, try not to argue in front of
your children.
• I can say from my own experience, it has a
negative impact on them and can
influence there relationships in the present
and future.
13. PEACE INTHE CHURCH
• It is crucial that we maintain peace & order in God’s house,
His dwelling place where the law & truth are
• We must love our brothers and sisters, greeting everyone
cheerfully as we enter the sanctuary.
• If conflict arises, the word of God serves as a guide on how
to resolve issues. There are no enemies amongst us. Our
enemy is Satan, (Ephesians 6: 12)
• Remember that we are all a part of the body of Christ. If we
bear ill will towards one another, we are doing it to Christ.
(Corinthians 12: 12 & 27 & Matthew 25: 31 & 41 to 46)
• Satan wants you to only focus on the offensive things
someone has done or said. It is impossible to forgive
someone or be at peace with them when you have this
mindset.
• You have to learn to forgive, let go and let peace have the
upper hand. Trust me, you will feel so much better when
you do this.
14. PEACE INTHE CHURCH
• When we go up to the altar our words must be salted
with salt, meaning they must be holy and clean,
(Colossians 4: 6)
• We do not speak with the intent to sow discord or to air
our grievances. Instead we must speak to elevate God’s
truth and to edify, strengthen and comfort one another.
• Keep in mind and consider that when you speak at the
altar, you are not merely speaking to members of the
church but the entire host of heaven.
• Therefore, we cannot approach the altar or speak
however we choose. We must do what is pleasing and
acceptable to God. We want the offering of Abel not of
Cain (Genesis 4: 1-7)
• To sum it up,“For God is not the author of confusion, but
of peace, as in all churches of the saints,”
(I Corinthians 14: 33)
• “Let all things be done decently & in order,” (I Corinthians
14: 40)
15. PEACE AMONGSTTHE SONS OF MEN
• We not only have to be peaceable to those in our inner
circle but also to all people in this world, whether
righteous or wicked.
• The Lord commands us to obey the laws of the land and
respect positions of authority, such as an office manager, a
police officer or a judge, provided it does not contradict
the laws of God ( I Peter 2: 13-16)
• It is not wise to be unruly, disruptive or speak in an
unseemly way nor should you use your belief in the truth
as an excuse to do so.
• We must be wise as a serpent and harmless as a dove
(Matthew 10: 16)
• When we let our light shine and show forth the
testimonies, the Lord will cause us to gain favor with the
sons of men.
• By displaying peace in your words and actions, you can
quickly remedy conflict and keep confusion and potential
dangers at bay.
16. PEACE AMONGSTTHE SONS OF MEN
• Consider the excessive violence and police brutality
we have seen in recent years.
• Particularly towards towards black men and even
black women now as blatant racism emerges more
and more.
• So many unnecessary deaths, some possibly avoided
• But we are children of the light, we must use God’s
law as our protection that we might avoid the
“terror by night”or the “arrow that flieth by day”
• If we are approached by a police office, whether
just or not, we must speak with respect, being
cautious of our demeanor, tone and gestures. You
can save your life by doing so and maintain godly
peace in your life.
• We must teach our children to do so as they come
of age
17. CONCLUSION
• I hope this lesson helps all of
you. Remember that God is
our peace and you can indeed
find it if you seek it out in
scriptures, through song and
prayer. Hold onto it daily and
let it take effect in your words,
in your relationships and in
every deed you bring forth.
Let God bless you all and may
you continue to grow as you
work towards your weekly
goals. Amen.
