The Group of EU Municipalities with Nuclear Facilities (GMF) considers renewable energies and combined cycle plants important for energy supply, but notes their environmental impacts if new infrastructure is required. GMF members believe their areas should be designated as "energy producer territories" since electricity network connections already exist. GMF supports diversifying energy sources, views nuclear technology as safe when safety standards are met, and wants local levels more involved in nuclear plant closure decisions due to economic and social impacts. GMF recommends a policy of diversifying energy production on existing infrastructure to minimize environmental impacts.
