This document provides an introduction and overview of the book "Global Carbon Pricing". It argues that successful climate negotiations require a common commitment between countries in the form of an agreed upon global carbon price, rather than individual commitments or relying solely on altruism. The book aims to explain how such a common carbon price commitment can realign national self-interests with the global good of addressing climate change. It dispenses with dominant narratives that negotiations must rely on "ambition" or that countries will only commit to their narrow self-interest. Instead, it argues that with a common carbon price commitment, reciprocity between countries will drive cooperation as each will price carbon if others do too.
