 The pyramids of Giza are among the main
tourist sites, tourists visit when they come to
Egypt.
 There are three main Pyramids that were built
in the 4th Dynasty in 2550 B.C. The Pyramids
of Ancient Egypt were built as tombs for
Kings.
 Today there are more than 93 Pyramids in
Egypt and still the most famous pyramids are
those at Giza.
 It is divided to three pyramids:
1. The Great Pyramid of Khufu.
2. The Pyramid of Khafre.
3. The Pyramid of Menkaure.
 The Great Pyramid of Khufu is the most famous
Pyramid in Egypt, the biggest and the tallest. After its
construction it became one of the “Seven Wonders Of
The World”.
For 4300
years, the
Pyramid
was the
tallest
building on
earth, until
the French
built the
Eiffel Tower
in 1889.
 The entrance of the Pyramid is located at the
northern side.
 The Pyramid is built entirely of limestone, and is
considered an architectural masterpiece. It contains
around 1,300,000 blocks ranging in weight from 2.5
tons to 15 tons.
 Khafre's Pyramid is the 2nd Pyramid.
 The fact that khafre Pyramid stands on a higher part
of the plateau gives the impression that it is taller than
the Great Pyramid.
The only
similarity to
his father's
Pyramid is
the entrance
in the north.
There is
nothing
leading into
the inside of
the Pyramid
 Khafre's son, Menkaure, built the smallest of the 3
main Pyramids on the Giza Plateau. It also has
northern face entrance.
Unlike the
Pyramids of his
father and
grandfather that
were completely
cased in fine and
white Turah
limestone,
Menkaure's
Pyramid was
only partly cased
in Turah
limestone.
