Turquoise Tiled Shower With Teak Floor

Bathroom
Finding the materials for this
bathroom might be a little
challenging, but this is my
most popular Pin to date, so
let’s do this!

Start with the background tile

color, but in a much smaller
size.
Figuring out the
back wall…
If there are no tiles behind the
floating sink and mirrors, you’ll
need 60 square feet of tile to
complete the back wall.

Alternative tile: Susan Jablon 1x3” subway tiles
Cost of Tiles
 60 square feet
 1x3 Susan Jablon subway= $15.99/sq ft. *
 The Amazon mosaic* shown in the first option is

lacking in information, but appears to be $21.50/sq ft.
(Ouch!)
 Of course, you could pick a 6” x 12” tile you like in a
suitable color and price range.
 60 square feet at $16/sq ft =$960
Mirror Panels

Panels?

Assuming 4-3x4’ beveled
mirrors
 Home Depot: 48 x 36 in

Beveled Wall Mirrors are
$44.99 each
 $179.96 for all four.
The tubular sconces
can be pricey. This
fixture offers a slightly
cheaper option.
Home Depot: Three fixtures
at $131.04 each=$393.12
Don’t forget the ceiling lights

Home Depot’s version

Home Depot’s Can is $13.67 a piece. This satin nickel ring is $8.80.
Five lights will cost you $601.48
Rainfall Fixture
Original is approximately
$1,700.

Our version is smaller, but
much cheaper at $99.99. It’s
also half the size.
Now for the good stuff! tile

horizontally.
8 square feet for
side of wall & 6x8
for wall itself
Tile is $159.90 for 10 square
feet. 70 square feet will cost
$1119.30. This includes waste
and extra tile for the niche.

Teak Shower Floor
While this type of shower floor has
become very popular on Pinterest
and Houzz.com, figuring out how
to lay it was more challenging.
Turns out, it’s an inset. You either
have to make a waterproof shower
base (tiled or cement with the
drain and proper pitch) or
purchase and install a shower pan.
The wood inset is then laid within
that shower pan area. You can
make the base yourself from teak
or cedar 1x2’s. The natural oils in
teak make it perfect for this high
moisture area. Marine-grade
urethanes help protect it.

Speaking of Floors
 The rest of the floor is fairly straightforward:
12x24 porcelain tiles $1.99/square foot
This may be a gross overestimate, but
This floor looks to be 6x8, so 48 sq. ft.

8 feet of pebble mosaic under the
Floating vanity is $13/sq. ft.
Floating Vanity
These are still tough to find. When
doing your own search, look for
“Wall-mounted Vessel Vanity.”
This one, on ebay, is currently bid
at $600.
In Hindsight….
This bathroom might be a lot
smaller than it initially looks. The
left side looks like a reflection
but, on closer inspection, it looks
like a reflective wall which makes
the floor more of a hallway and the
sink area half the quoted size.
In other words, your mileage may
vary. It is possible to do this much
cheaper than the shopping list on
the next page will indicate.
Also, I have not included the prices
of wiring and plumbing. If you
need to update those things in your
home, prepare to include those
additional expenses.

Sticker Shock!
 Yes, I got sticker shock, too. But, keep in mind that

you have control over the materials and your vision.
 Also, remember that this bathroom might be half as
big, reducing the cost significantly.
 It’s all about vision—your vision. You don’t have to
copy any picture exactly.
