Building Cloud-Backed Mobile Apps (MBL402) | AWS re:Invent 2013Amazon Web Services
Connecting your mobile app to AWS can unlock powerful features. With AWS, you can streamline your sign-in experience with social login, store user data in the cloud and share it between devices, display location-specific information using geospatial queries, and engage your customers across multiple platforms with push notifications. In this session, you learn how to integrate these powerful features into a sample mobile app using Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Simple Notification Service (Amazon SNS), and web identity federation.
This document discusses upgrading from Webtrends v9 tags to the more flexible v10 tag. The v10 tag uses a modular, asynchronous architecture that allows for customizable tracking through transforms, selectors, and plugins. Transforms modify data before it is sent to Webtrends. Selectors attach tracking calls to page elements using CSS selectors without changing markup. Plugins provide a reusable way to deploy custom tracking code. The upgrade involves transforming the configuration, moving over custom code, replacing the old synchronous tag code with the new asynchronous tag code, and testing.
The document summarizes key announcements from Google IO about Android tools and APIs, including:
Gradle was updated to version 1.6 with improved dependency management, library support, and build variants. Volley was introduced as a new networking library that improves on AsyncTask with prioritization, caching, and cancellation. The Mobile Backend Starter provides a no-code backend with Google auth and Cloud Messaging built in. Location APIs were expanded with contextual listeners and geofencing capabilities. The Activity Recognition API detects user activities like walking and cycling. The Game API integrates achievements, leaderboards, cloud saves, and multiplayer across platforms. The Google Play Console was updated with new analytics and publishing tools.
Metalkube: Deploy Kubernetes on Bare Metal - Yolanda Robla (Red Hat)Shift Conference
Usually Kubernetes is deployed on top of virtual machines. In this session, we are going to explain how to deploy Kubernetes on top of a physical infrastructure, including compute, networking, and storage services. Metalkube provides infrastructure management integrated directly with Kubernetes, allowing to host workloads that require running on the host directly: machine learning, VNFs for telcos, or for cases like Edge Computing where you need to have all the infrastructure self-hosted but still leverage the high-availability and fault-tolerance of Kubernetes.
The document discusses iCloud integration with iOS applications. It covers using iCloud with UIDocument to save and load documents, syncing files to iCloud, and monitoring file changes with NSMetadataQuery. Background queues are recommended for file operations to avoid blocking the main thread.
This document discusses enhancing the OpenStack Horizon dashboard user interface with AngularJS. It provides an overview of Horizon and describes how to add a new panel to the dashboard using AngularJS. Key aspects covered include adding a REST API resource and controller to retrieve and manage data, integrating AngularJS templates and directives into Horizon templates, and maintaining a clean separation of client-side and server-side code. Contributing to Horizon and using Devstack for OpenStack development is also briefly discussed.
The OpenStack Horizon project provides a web-based User Interface to OpenStack services. It is constructed in two parts: (1) a core set of libraries for implementing a Dashboard; (2) the dashboard implementation that uses the core set of libraries.
Horizon uses python django — server side technology
Django is a wonderful framework, but a little dated. Pre-dates the rise in client-side and single page applications.
Javascript is used for enhancing the user experience
In the time since Horizon was first architected, there have been major advances in the design, and best practices for web applications. In particular, the use of more sophisticated and robust client-side javascript frameworks like BackboneJS, AngularJS, MeteorJS, have come to the fore.
These applications provide a much more responsive user experience, much cleaner separation between the client and server, enable configuration driven interfaces, and facilitate more modular testing.
This in turn, results in shorter development cycles, more testable software, and above all, a better user experience.
In this presentation, we share some of our recent work in re-architecting parts of Horizon to take advantage of these new technologies. We discuss some of the technologies we use, our application architecture, and some of the pitfalls to avoid.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
