LETTER OF REFERENCE – LETTER OF INTRODUCTION
Name of Candidate:
Name of Certification:
Date of Certification:
To all to whom this letter may come, greetings.
As Director of Teracom Training Institute, it is my pleasure to provide this letter of reference
for the above-named candidate, describing the scope and content of the certification obtained.
The TCO Certified Telecommunications Network Specialist (CTNS) designation is awarded to
an individual that successfully completes a set of six online courses and their exams. In total,
the candidate must take 66 lessons in the six courses and achieve a score of 80% or better on
a rigorous 60-question exam.
The CTNS certification was developed by Teracom Training Institute in partnership with the
Telecommunications Certification Organization. It provides a solid foundation of structured
knowledge spanning telecom, datacom and networking from traditional telephony through
cellular to IP and MPLS networking, understanding the fundamentals, technologies, jargon
and buzzwords, and most importantly, the underlying ideas and how it all fits together.
This is essential core knowledge for the telecommunications and networking business, tuned,
refined and constantly updated. Thousands of people from AT&T, Verizon, Cisco, Qualcomm,
Intel and Microsoft, the CIA, FBI, NSA, IRS and FAA, all branches of US Armed Forces, Bell
Canada, TELUS, Qwest, Bank of America, the Hartford and hundreds of other carriers,
manufacturers and customers have taken this training over the past 20 years.
The list of courses and topic areas covered by this certification is provided on the following
page. I can certify that anyone taking these courses and passing this certification exam has a
vendor-independent breadth of knowledge spanning telecom and networks, from POTS to
cellular, the OSI model, LANs and MAC frames, IP packets and addresses, carrier networks,
and MPLS – with a depth of knowledge from fundamentals to current best practices.
With suitable complementary skills meeting particular job requirements, the candidate with this
knowledge set can be recommended as a valuable asset to any organization in positions such
as systems analyst, planner, designer, software developer, business analyst, management,
telecom specialist, sales and marketing.
Please review the outline of subject areas and additional resources on the next page. If there
is any additional assistance that can be provided, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours truly,
Eric Coll, M.Eng.
