Gemini 5 was a 1965 NASA mission with astronauts Charles Conrad and Gordon Cooper. It launched on August 21, 1965 from Cape Canaveral, Florida and returned on August 29, 1965, setting a new record for the longest American crewed spaceflight at 8 days. The mission's objectives were to practice space endurance and rendezvous techniques in support of the Apollo program. Gemini 5 landed safely in the Atlantic Ocean just 130 km from its intended splashdown point.
