Slide 1 (opening) kaka
In this Section we will share about three women's tech and critique of imperialism by gayatri
chakravortis Spivak.
slide 2 (gayatri) kaka
First, let us know about who is Spivak, gayatri chakravorty spivak is the wife of the author of the
bride world the traditional gold, talbot Spivak gayatri is an indian scholar who has studied in
university of Calcutta and cornell university, in addition she is also a literary terrorist and feminist
critic.
slide 3 (timeline) kaka
in 1961 she joined the graduate program in english at cornell university and 4 years later she
became an assistant professor in the english department of university of lowa, then in 1974 she
founded the MFA in translation in the department of comparative literature in the same university
and 3 years after that she joined the university of texas as professor of English and comparative
literature.
slide 4 (three women’s works examined by Spivak) kaka
in her essay three women stack and critique of imperialism, spivak is a mind tree work by women
those are jane eyre by Charlotte Bronte, White Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys and Frankenstein by Mary
Shelley, here she say that the woman in imperialist society is tasked with creating humanity and
humans through sexual reproduction and also through imperialism's social mission that is to civilize
the other, but she doesn't take a position of blaming women for their complicity in imperialism but
instead explicates their place in the party are called imperialis hegemony, by way of drawing an
analogy from roberto fernandez reta mars Caliban where kaliban is the uncivilized native other, ariel
is the intellectual native other and prospero is a partier and colonizer.
slide 5 (jane eyra by charlotte bronte) kaka
in jane eyre by charlotte bronte Spivak points out an expression that is self-marginalized uniqueness
within the family or cancer family diet or on which brand's novel is structured, spivak contends that
change progress from being of the country family to being of the family mirrors and reproduced the
active ideology of imperialism, spivak argues that this process is imperialist because it is constructed
through imperialist ideology but appearance in a number of dichotomized she calls attention to that
underpinned the novel, Jane must displace rochester's mad, animalistic and porn's wife bertamison
in order to take her place in the family which in imperialist term that is asserting her personhood.
slide 6 ( wide sargasso sea by Jean Rhys) kaka
and the next spivak's analysis of wide sargasso sea dwells on the role that language voice and text
have in both aiding and impeding one's project of individualizing, she suggests that a woman cannot
arrive at the send of self without reproducing imperialist contraction she say that no perspective
critical of imperialism can turn the other into self because the project of imperialism has always
already historically, refracted what might have been the absolutely other interdomestical other that
consolidates the imperialist self.
slide 7 (Frankenstein by Mary Shelley) kaka
then her essay is closed with a discussion of Frankenstein as a counterpoint to the imperialism
embedded in gin air and Wide Sargasso Sea, she say that frankenstein is attacks of nation feminism
that doesn't speak the language of feminist individualism which relies on the axiomatics of
imperialism through prison she argues that imperialism is merely incidental in Frankenstein, she said
that the novel is not a battleground of male and female individualism articulated in terms of sexual
reproduction of family and female and social subject production or race and male besides that
spivak shows another point of her discussion of Frankenstein is to make note of the face that here
neither frankenstein's creature nor woman fit into the kaliban ariel and prospero schematic that
governs the previously discussed novel, she said that the place both the English women and the
unnameable monster are left open by discreet flow texts, for that we can see that the function of
women and others oblive and intertwine in the imperialist discourse.
slide 8 (worlding) kaka
the next thing that we can found in this spivak essay is about wording actually the term of wording
was first introduced in the previous spivak’s essay entitled “The Rani Of Simur : An Essay In Reading
The Archive.
where she explains how the colonized space is transformed the colonies based forgunative by their
colonial masters through the acts such as cartography writing or simply traveling over the colonized
land, in that essay she gave an example with the story of the long british officer who traveling to
india with his attendant and recording then mapping his experiences as he travels, in spivak's view
this power to travel and record is what forced the accompanying native to catholic decolonized
space according to representation of the masters, in other words an act of conductation involves
investing one's own desires and imagination in action or act of just one concider one superior for
that wording is informed by our turning of attention to a certain experience place or encounter and
our active engagement with the materiality and context in which events and interactions occur, it is
an impordide and enacted process a way of being in the world consisting of an individual's world
person act of attending to the world, on a more sophisticated level this process of warding the world
plays an important role in the imperial educational system in which the natives not only learn of
their own land as belonging to their colonial misters but also start seeing themselves as they are
record and represented by their masters.
maybe it's from me and will be continued by my colleague, ibnu azmi firdaus.
slide 9 (metropolis literature) ADEK
a metropolis literature, a metropolis is a very large city or urban area which is a significant economic
political and cultural center for a country or region and an important for regional or international
connection and communication, the term is greg and means the modern city of a colonial that is a
city which sent out settlers this was that are generalizes to a city regarded as the center of specific
activity or any large important city in the nation, urban areas of viewers than 1 million people are
rarely considered metropolis is contemporary context big cities belonging to larger urban
agglomeration but which are not the core of the agglomeration are not generally considered a
metropolis but a part of it, the plural of the world is most commonly metropolis is for urban center
outside metropolis area the generally assimilate attraction at smaller scale for the region, metropolis
got the social sense has suddenly reached the consensus that the term of most new literature is
destroyed in almost the same setting as the city so there is no nature matters from a country, imam
taurang in his essay in the case of latin american literature and he made some statement at the
global current and unstoppable to metropolis completed a new aesthetic or disrubbish. the case of
latin american literature known as an urban literature is relevant to development of literature
anywhere checklit and thinly women, for example are the symptoms of occurring literary sex and
Islamic term that future social term such as a perfectly and those in latin American, Japan, india, and
indonesia that knowledge talk about the depression in have in is culture, literature is the realm of
imagination the most imaginary literary world can possess absolute autonomy subjective even
irrelevant to individuals or individuals such as adolfo sanchez first quest say, literature is born in kris
and in concrete cynicism at art and society Maryland press London 1973.
slide 10 (feminism & post – colonial) ADEK
between post-colonialism and feminism since the 1980s feminism and postcolonialism began to
exchange and dialogue forming a new interpretation space that is post-colonial feminist cultural
theory, there is a very complicated relationship between post colonialism and feminism but in
practice and theory it was obvious that they have always been consistent as both cultural theories
focus on the marginalization of the older there is marginal diseases by the ruling structure
consciously declining their interests the most important disagreement must offer women in the
truth world some post-colonialists who hold feminist positions believe that focusing on a world
racial politic is born to ignore double colonization but racial and gender situation of women under
imperialist condition that theory assumed that women in the trade world are the true victim of both
ingredients and alien ideologies of patrickal-imprialis and the fear of feminist anti-colonial
nationalism in the truth world also has serious gender discrimination while the post-colonial theory
shows serious theorical kindness in this regret, for structuralism is used to deny the common
foundation of patriarchy and colonialism the thinking one of binary opposition however only the
most current period postcolonialism and feminism running is more near it is almost like an alien the
factor contributing to this audience at that third part record using their limitation furthermore for
quite some time there have been serious conflicts between these two equality famous critical
theory.
slide 11 (women in the third world) ADEK
in the eyes of some post-colonial critic so-called women of the threat world that western feminism is
fun of talking about particularly an emphasis on their differences, itself colonial wherever in previous
women goal western feminism remain that they show what they call differentitation, this fascination
with the colorful exorcism of native women only surface to satisfy to futuristic research of western
women, the consciousness of different set up implicate cultural hierarchy western feminism have
the privilege of preparing the path to liberalization for their unfortunate sister, post-colonial feminist
theory has always concerned itself with the relationship between white feminists and her
ingredients counterpart, in their eagerness to voice the concern the colonial’s women white
feminists have overlooked racial cultural and historical specificities that mark the condition of these
women and so doing they have imposed white feminist models on colonies women and there by
work as an ompressor.
