3. Established in 1948, the Gauhati University was the sole
university in the whole eastern area, with the other being in

7. Hostels: The university campus has a hostel to meet the
accommodation demands of students. Besides, hostel living is
among the most significant parts of college life, serving as the
main residence for the majority of the students. Hence, the
university takes care to build hostels in such a way that they

On-campus, there are 11 Boys' and 12 Girls' Hostels. The hostels
