Auckland, New Zealand
Responsible for project management of the Transport Agency’s Major Project Programme.
Responsibilities and Duties include:
 Project manage the delivery of multimillion dollar schemes including road, walking and cycling projects.
 This is achieved through an understanding of social factors such as proximity and impact of major schemes
including statutory consultees such as Iwi and Local Boards as well as robust consultation with local
communities. Examples include the establishment of regular iwi liaison meetings for Mangere Bridge scheme
and public consultation production and attendance across a number of schemes.
 Close liaison with other government authority and subject matter experts including development and
environmental specialists to derive and mitigate against the likely impact of road schemes. Use of specialist
and conventional software including SAP and Microsoft Project, Excel and PowerPoint to narrate graphically
the plans and programmes to both internal and external partners. Information is presented within statutory
documents including public consultation material for schemes and statutory documents including the State
Highway Activity Management Plan and Auckland Regional Land Transport Plan (see below).
 Engage with local authority partners as a subject matter expert on the impact and benefits of the Agency’s
projects on the sustained development across the Auckland region. Supported to the initiation of the North
West Auckland Growth Area group.
 Provide State Highway input into latest Auckland Plan iteration and represent the Agency at meetings and
boards. Support Auckland Transport in public consultation events in relation to state highway and local road
impacts of the Auckland Regional Land Transport Plan (RLTP).
 Understand roading standards in New Zealand including Australasian standards such as Ausroads and
implement as part of major project management to support a safe and reliable transport system. Schemes

value of over NZ$130m (A$121m).
 Understanding of the economic and political climate within which the Agency works by championing and
updating the use of the Agency’s SAP and TIO systems for project and financial management. Present
programme and information to senior management.
 Responsible for the production, consultation and development of the 2015-18 State Highway Activity
Management Plan (SHAMP) for the Auckland and Northland Region with a programme value in excess of
NZ$1bn (A$930m). Represent the Transport Agency on State Highway matters in relation to the statutory
RLTP for Auckland including acting as mediator in relation to both internal and external matters of contention.
 Designated cycling champion for the Auckland region securing over NZ$40m (A$37m) of funding in initial
year. Speak publically on these proposals to stakeholders and customers and provide regular updates to
Agency and Ministry of Transport colleagues.
May 2006 to October 2013 - Senior Transportation Planner/Transport Planner, Essex County Council,
Chelmsford, United Kingdom
Responsible for development and successful completion of the Council’s major transportation schemes
programme
Responsibilities and Duties included:
 Develop and monitor the County Council’s major transportation programme totalling between £50m to £70m
(NZ$105.6m to NZ$147.8m; A$98.1m to A$137.4m). Undertaken through the close engagement with other
project managers at the Council by providing local authority.
 Undertaking Business Plan assessment and challenge for Essex County Council with our new Highways
Strategic Partner Ringway Jacobs. This strategic partnership represents one of the largest in the UK with a
value of over £1 billion (NZ$2.11bn; A$1.96bn) in the next 10 years.
 Analysis of economic factors through the management and report on corporate finance and project
information for the Transportation team in a timely manner.
 Produce reports and strategies for Essex County Council including Cycle Strategies for the City of Chelmsford
and Chelmsford Park and Ride user report.
 Commissioned and continued development of the Major Schemes Project Database for scheme information
to be held and reported from one source.
 Deliver the mapping and GIS requirements of the team for both internal and external publications and reports.
 Undertook management of projects within Europe’s largest growth and regeneration area; Thames Gateway
South Essex which included road, passenger transport and cycling schemes.
 Produced successful funding bids to central government to secure funding totalling over £70million
(NZ$147.8m; A$137.4m).
 Liaised with local district and borough councils in the successful delivery of Local Plans and Local
Development Framework documents.

Other Interests and Hobbies
Sport has played an important part of my life allowing me to not only stay health but help me to stay active
socially. I participate in a wide range of sports including weekly 5 and 11-a-side football matches, cycling both
for commuting and leisure and have undertaken a number of rides for charity and more recreational sports such
as golf, swimming, tennis and squash. I am also a keen supporter of Portsmouth Football Club, the South Sydney
Rabbitohs and the New York Giants American Football Team.
I have always had an interest in technology and how it can be used to make life and task easier. To this end I
am a keen reader of guides for new software and hardware and have used this to assist and champion new
software and technology to family and colleagues.
