Make Your Stick Figures Work Harder: The 3 C's of SketchingJason Ulaszek
Presented at Sketch Camp Chicago on November 2, 2013.
Look inside a designer's toolkit and you'll likely find a broadly defined exercise called sketching. It's an exercise that can turn napkins, flip charts, whiteboards and 6-up templates into valuable assets containing everything from direction of business models to mobile app experiences. While a sketching exercise might produce an artifact seemingly simple to the uninitiated, great designers know the exercise requires design itself. By purposefully designing the exercise around the "3 C's" - communication, context and collaboration - we can increase participation and engagement by both design team members and stakeholders. In this session you'll learn about these three factors that are key to consider in planning and facilitating a sketching exercise. You'll also walk away with a handful of tips and tricks to try on your next project.
Tutorial and workshop from the Games for Health 2014 conference. Covers common problems, failings of gamification, elements of player experience, paper prototyping, and essential concepts in game design.
General UX activities & process overviewBen Melbourne
Here's a somewhat somewhat lengthy (by still far from comprehensive) presentation introducing and detailing the process and activities involved in Agile UX. The content focuses on introducing the basic steps of UX and explaining what they are.
It's liberally referenced from anywhere I could cut and paste from, and includes lots of links for more reading, where more comprehensive explanations of each activity can be found.

Make Culture, Not War: The Secret to Great Teams & OrganizationsTeresa Brazen
Fluxible Conference 2013, Talk by Teresa Brazen
Video of the talk here: http://www.fluxible.ca/2014/01/video-teresa-brazen/
More org/team culture tips & methods here: http://www.cooper.com/topics/designing-culture/
“We’re way off schedule. Everyone is disengaged. No one is on board with the vision.” Sound familiar? What if you could create great products and services without all that drama? What if there was a secret to stellar team dynamics?
From “Ship It Days” to immersive onboarding programs, learn about curious, compelling ways that people from every role within organizations are creating inspired cultures. Drawing from her experience as a team member, team leader, and team facilitator, Teresa Brazen discusses what constitutes a “healthy” culture, how culture impacts design teams and what they create together, and tools and techniques for fostering environments we all want to work in. Along the way, you’ll discover how uniquely well-suited designers are to creating culture change if they adapt the methodologies already in their arsenal.
If you lead a team, want to lead, work remotely, build stuff, wrangle people daily, or just want to learn about invaluable techniques for cultivating inspired team culture this talk is for YOU.
Scrum secrets for integrating UX, design & developmentPieter Jongerius
Agile or Lean UX requires teamwork, and lots of it. One of the hardest parts of doing Agile UX in a multidisciplinary environment is, well, staying alive. Scrumming in one room with a product owner, UX- and visual designers, editors, and front- and back-end developers, is challenging to say the least. We have respectfully come to call this form of scrum ÜberScrum.
In this talk, Pieter Jongerius has shared his best-kept scrumming secrets with experienced Scrum practitioners. What tools, what deliverables and what rhythms should you use to actually succeed in designing & developing at the same time? What are known pitfalls and key success factors?
Fabrique has been using scrum since 2008. Some 60 team members have scrummed well over 30,000 hours for national and international clients.
Basic Instructional Design Principles - A PrimerMike Kunkle
This is a very basic primer I once created to teach a staff of technical writers about instructional design. It was not designed for non-verbal delivery, but it will give you an idea of basic ISD concepts.
How does biology explain the low numbers of women in computer science? Hint:...Terri Oda
I used to do this back-of-the-napkin style presentation on whatever paper was handy when someone told me in person that women just weren't good at math, and that's why there were so few women in computer science. I'm not sure what possesses people to say stuff like that to female mathematicians, really.
Anyhow, the point is that yes, there is some gender disparity in math skills, but if you do the math, it simply doesn't add up: those differences simply cannot explain why there are so few women in computer science (or in open source software, or in physics, or whatever).
Many people misunderstand or abuse the information we have about gender and ability differences. Hopefully this presentation will explain what the data really says (which isn't very much).
This presentation explains the role of the Users for this city search engine, MultiLingualCity.com. Especially the User's situations applicable when there is added value.
Cross-Build Injection attacks are a completely new class of attacks that take place at build time. In this presentation (which was presented at JavaOne 2012) I show what the problem is and what can be done about. As always, security doesn't come for free: you'll have to work to get it right!

Plagiarism in the Digital Age: Voices from the Front Lines
What's Happening on College Campuses Today?
A 75-minute Virtual Conference Series of moderated online panel discussions
Plagiarism is a growing concern and a hot topic in the academic community. Many time-pressured students rely on the internet to locate convenient sources to fulfill their writing assignments, sometimes committing cut-and-paste plagiarism. College faculty, administrators and students believe that the online environment encourages cheating, and are looking for the best ways to encourage students' original work while helping them become better writers.
Please make plans to participate in this important online discussion. You’ll hear from a panel of leading experts who will share their experiences from the front lines of the digital plagiarism issue. You’ll have an opportunity to submit questions to the panel, plus you’ll have access to a range of “best practice” online resources you can use immediately.
