7. MUST
1. We use “must” to give an obligation that the listener must
follow. It can be a formal law or an important obligation in
the speaker's opinion.
E.g:
- Passengers must show passports at immigration.
(Bạn phải trình hộ chiếu khi nhập cảnh) => theo luật yêu cầu
- You must come to the party as it could be the last time we see
each other.
(Bạn phải đến buổi tiệc vì đây có thể là lần cuối ta gặp nhau) =>
theo ý kiến của người nói là người nghe phải đến bữa tiệc
2. We use “must not (mustn’t)” to talk about something that is
forbidden not to do.
E.g.
- You must not give my credit card details to anyone.
(Bạn không được đưa thông tin tài khoản ngân hàng cho người
khác).
8. HAVE TO
1. We use “have to” to give a responsibility that the listener must do. Have
to is often used in everyday speech and is less formal than must.
E.g.
- Henry has to do the dishes every Wednesday.
(Henry phải rửa chén mỗi ngày thứ Tư) => theo trách nhiệm trong gia đình
2. We use don’t “have to” to talk about something we don't have to do.
E.g.
- You don’t have to wear a uniform to work (Bạn không cần phải mặc đồng phục
khi đi làm).
