ABOUT GRAEME ARCHER
Have you ever thought why so much political writing turns off the reader? Could it be something to do with treating the topic like a football match?
Daily Telegraph columnist and blogger Graeme argues that metaphor is a more powerful a way to make a point than the use of statistics to 'prove' an assertion -- whether you're writing about politics, people, products or services.
Whatever your field, bullet points of 'evidence' make for uncompelling writing. Instead, Graeme argues that writers are more convincing if they are more passive -- more like a camera than a philosopher-salesman.
Graeme has been writing a column in the Daily Telegraph since May 2011, as well as contributing to its rolling blog. Prior to that he wrote for ConservativeHome.
In 2011, Graeme won the Orwell Prize for Political Blogging. In his 'other' life, he has a PhD in Statistics and works as a statistician in pharmaceutical R&D.
The world of comedy lost a giant this month. Joan Rivers may have topped out at just 5'2" and weighed 110 pounds soaking wet, but when it comes to influence, she towered above her peers.
This winter, American Mobile travel nurses decided they'd had enough of the cold. And they showed us exactly why they needed some California sunshine ASAP.

MW2010: S. Hazan et al., ATHENA: A Mechanism for Harvesting Europe's Museum H...museums and the web
A presentation from Museums and the Web 2010.
Europeana, Europe's multimedia on-line library, museum and archive, currently grants access to the cultural holdings of Europe's twenty-seven member states. It includes more than 5.5 million books, maps, recordings, photographs, archival documents, paintings, and films from national libraries and cultural institutions. Europeana’s goal is to open up new ways of exploring Europe's heritage through free access to the collections and treasures via a single Web portal that is available in all the official EU languages (http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/ doc/factsheets /071-europeana-en.pdf).
Europeana is currently in prototype; the full service will launch later in 2010. The operational Europeana portal will provide improved search functionality and access to over 10 million objects. A follow-up release in 2011 will showcase multilingual and semantic Web features. ATHENA's role is to harvest holdings from Europe's museums and similar collections across the cultural sector, and to facilitate their integration into Europeana.
This paper will discuss this ambitious project from the point of view of the organizational strategies required to coordinate the pan-European, ATHENA Network, as well as the thesauri and multilingual developments that the partners are currently dealing with towards the integration of digital content.

Museum of the future debate transcriptionbritishmuseum
Transcription of the first Museum of the future debate 'A living building: how could the British Museum best deliver its constant purpose for a changing public?' on Thursday 11 September 2014
On Friday 1st March 2019, P5B pupils led the P4-7 Assembly to tell everyone about their 'End Child Labour' campaign. The pupils have worked with Miss Caideron and Ms French to develop their fantastic ideas for their campaign and they shone brightly with confidence and enthusiasm in their presentations. Great examples of personal research and P5B explained clearly how they are planning on raising awareness with a playground march on Friday 8th March and a leaflet campaign. Inspiring to see these young people take the lead in class, in school and in the community!
P7 Captains also explained how Laura Sharp and her team at Fast Forward worked with each of their classes on an anti-tobacco project earlier this year. Laura produced leaflets using some of the P7 designs which will be issued to all families on Tuesday 5th March with a sign up pledge to smoke free homes and zones. Next week, Laura will collect pledges handed into the School Office. Laura also arranged for Sciennes to receive a Tobacco Free School Charter from Ash Scotland.
P7 Captain Matthew announced that the Oor Wullie sculpture design templates will be given out with homework on Tuesday 5th March. Jacqueline Shaw will introduce the project to P1-3 at their Assembly on Monday 4th March.
For LGBT Scotland month, everyone joined in singing "I Am What I Am" which has a message to everyone to be confident in who they are. P7 Captain Alba reminded everyone to wear red and bring a donation if they wish on Red Nose Day, Friday 15th March,

n:Philanthropy
The Freedom Collection
Fall/Winter 2015
n:Philanthropy is a collection created in
Los Angeles with inspiration taken from the streets of
Paris. Owned by Yvonne Niami, a philanthropist
herself, she wanted to create fashion with a
philanthropic purpose.
n:Phil, as we like to call it, is a full collection apparel
company with a chic, sporty point of view.
Wear n:Phil out on the town with heels or run errands
on the weekends, you will always
look like a fashionista.
Our Creative Director, Alexandre Caugant,
is French born, and adds depth to the
collection with his master sense of finessing
European seaming and details, similar to what
you would find in a Parisian boutique.
This season’s theme is the Freedom to travel and
it is reflected in graphic silhouettes of our favorite
cityscapes— Los Angeles, New York, and Paris.
Alex uses embroidery, sequins, and studs in this
collection. Our red metallic plaque on every piece
tells you this is a n:Phil original.
n:Philanthropy has an important mission.
The name itself comes from Yvonne Niami’s longtime
passion for philanthropic altruism. 10% of profits are
donated to support pediatric cancer and animal abuse
prevention. We work hand in hand with CHLA,
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, to help children
afflicted with cancer. We are also animal lovers and
proudly support SPCALA, Society for the Prevention
of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles.
In the pocket lining of every pair of our pants and
jeans, you will find our secret message:
“btw-you just helped a child and
animal in need-good work!”
Because we ALL truly play a part in helping others.
