Granite is an igneous rock commonly used for countertops and other interior applications. It is the oldest rock on Earth and was used to build the first commercial railroad in the U.S., the pedestal for the Statue of Liberty, and parts of the Egyptian pyramids. New Hampshire is nicknamed the Granite State due to its extensive granite deposits.
