This document analyzes data on miles per gallon (MPG) from 1950 to 2011 to predict MPG for a 2011 car. The data showed MPG increasing over time from 14.8 MPG in 1950 to 15.5 MPG in 1990. However, the predicted MPG of 19.3 for a 2011 car using this data was much lower than the actual 34 MPG for a 2011 Honda CR-Z hybrid. Additional graphs showed that driving speed affects gas mileage, with faster speeds resulting in lower MPG. This reinforced the finding that predictions based solely on past non-hybrid data would underestimate improvements in fuel efficiency.
