1. The barcodes on both of the
magazines show that they are not

Usher is the main image on the
magazine. His body posture in
this picture suggests he is
‘manly’ and the fists suggest
anger towards the audience. The
body language of tis pose could
also connote signs of strength
and masculinity.
Taylor Swift covering the
masthead of the magazine
shows that the magazine is well
known as the title doesn’t need
to be seen for consumers to
know which magazine it is.
The colour scheme of the
magazine, being blue,
white and black makes the
magazine look very simple
spaced out. It’s easy to
read the sell lines as they
are spaced out equally on
either side and the black
writing and white
background contrast
makes it look eye catching
Her pose isn’t natural but it doesn’t come across as
sexual or inviting. As it is quite a relaxed pose, it
suggests the magazine is there for entertainment
and relaxation purposes.
Again, Ushers' pose covers the
masthead of the magazine. This
proves that the magazine is well
known enough that people can
recognize it by only seeing the
first and last letters of it.
The main image of him is surrounded by text,
none of which is covering any part of him. This
shows his importance on the page and he is
set out to be the main focus on the page.
‘The male gaze’ theory, introduced by Laura Mulvey
suggests that women are denied human identity, they are
seen as objects. This can also lead to hegemonic ideologies,
meaning that certain people have a ruling or are dominant
in a social context. Taylors pose in this picture is enhancing
this theory, as it can be seen as very inviting.
The main colours on this front page are blue,
black and white. These contrasting colours
make the main image, usher, stand out,
showing that he is the most important feature
of this magazine issue.
