Paul was formerly a zealous persecutor of Christians due to his religious pride but had a dramatic conversion experience on the road to Damascus where Jesus appeared to him in a vision. As a result, Paul was blinded and humbled. He was visited by a disciple named Ananias who healed Paul's blindness and baptized him, allowing Paul to see spiritually as well as physically. Paul went from being a enemy of Christians to becoming a preacher of the faith, changing from a persecutor to an apostle due to his humbling experience with Jesus.
