The Michael J. Fox Foundation was started in 2000 by actor Michael J. Fox after retiring from his role on "Spin City". Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1991 and publicly disclosed it in 1998. After learning about his diagnosis, Fox dedicated himself to researching Parkinson's disease. The foundation is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's through aggressive research funding and ensuring improved therapies for those living with the disease currently. Since starting in 2000, the foundation has funded over $450 million towards Parkinson's research.
