7. Topic: Force, work and Energy
Learning Objective:
To identify the common forces we come
across in our daily life.
To explain the term work.
To list some simple machines.
To explain some of the forms and sources of
energy.
8. Learning Outcomes /Success Criteria
Can list the different types of forces.
Can identify the different simple
machines used to make our work easy.
Can draw the life cycle of frog, butterfly.
Can list the different forms of energy.
9. • What do you mean by force? • Self correction
Force, Work and Energy
WHAT I KNOW?
10. LO: To explain force and describe the
types of forces.
• Changes which force can cause:
• Start motion
• Stop motion
• Increase/ decrease the speed of
an object.
• Change the direction of an
object.
• Change shape of an object.
• Force- push/pull
11. Types of forces
Frictional Force
The force which resists the motion of
an object on a surface.
Friction is produced when two
surfaces rubs against each other.
Friction generates heat.
Force of friction always acts in a
direction opposite to that of the
applied force.
12. • Smooth surface offers less
friction and takes more time to
slow down an object moving on
a smooth surface.
• Rough surface offers more
friction.
• If there is no friction, anything
that starts moving will never
stop.
• If there is too much friction,
nothing will move.
14. • All things thrown up falls down
due to the force of gravity of
Earth.
• Force of gravity is acting on an
object even when the object is
at rest.
• What do you think would
happen if there was no gravity
on Earth?
Gravitational force
The force that pulls objects
downwards towards the Earth is
called the force of gravity .
15. LO: To describe the different type of forces.
Application
RL
Give two examples of friction from
your real life.
17. Application time
• RL
• Why do you slip when you step
on a banana peel?
• CCL
• The roads in the UAE are smooth
while the vehicle tyres are
grooved with raised threads.
Why do you think tyres are not
made smooth?
18. Lo: To explain work.
• Work is said to be done only
when the force applied on an
object causes it to move through
a distance.
• Work is said to be done when
the force applied causes a
change in size and shape of the
object
19. Lo:To list some simple machines.
• Some simple machines are:
• Lever
• Pulley
• Wheel and Axle
• Inclined Plane
• Screws
• Wedge
• A simple machine is a tool that
makes our work easier and
faster with the use of less
energy.
