1. For First-Time Users
If you are using DXM for the first time, you should be prepared for some interesting feelings that you
may never have felt before. The main reason for this, I believe, is that DXM is having a profound
influence on the neurons within your intestines, or gut. Did you know that most of the body’s serotonin
is produced in the gut? This is probably also the reason why DXM has such a beneficial effect on
appetite. So you will experience stomach growling sensations, also because you may be cutting down on
your food. As this stuff has its effect on your gut, you may fell queasy or even a bit panicky. If you’ve
ever eaten a large dose of fiber, you may recall some funny feelings as the fiber churns through your
gut. So, if you are aware of this, you can recognize what is happening and know that it will pass, that the
world is not going to end, and good things are in store for you.
Anyone who has tried LSD or any other psychoactive drug, even antidepressants, may recall that at first
there are some funny feelings after taking the medications. This all due to the same effect upon
serotonin in the body.
I gave DXM to my 82 year old Mother.
I gave my poor mother a small dose, since she was curious to try it ( at age 82). My reason for doing this
is that I can see she is beginning to show mild dementia, or symptoms of early Alzheimer’s. Before you
start a witch hunt for me, I want to explain: Memantine is another NMDA antagonist, just like DXM, and
it is prescribed for Alzheimer’s. It’s one of the big new drug developments out there. So, I reasoned that
cough syrup would work exactly the same way, only better, since it will wear off sooner and not prevent
sleep, which is what Memantine does. So, I started her on twice the amount used to suppress a cough (4
gels). Even this was a bit too much for her sensitive body. She was not prepared for the anxious feelings
that she got, became convinced that my brother’s lateness was because he had been in an accident, and
when he arrived half an hour late, she hugged him for dear life. Believe it or not, my mom tried ecstasy
when she was in her 60s, so I thought she would be prepared. But she got scared, so I reduced the
amount to the amount prescribed for a cough. Sadly, she did not “feel” any effect from it at this dose,
although it probably would still have helped her, and is back to her forgetful self. I’ll get her to a doctor
in the Fall and he may prescribe Memantine, which will cost a LOT more and keep her awake at night.
