The complaint the Unites States Justice Department pursued for 10 years against Standard Oil Trust was finally settled in 1911 before the Supreme Court, when Standard Oil Trust, which controlled 92% of the oil and gas business in this country, was broken up into seven pieces.
It was not until 1999, when President Bill Clinton and Attorney General Janet Reno went after Bill Gates and Microsoft that the Sherman Act was back in the headlines (see Case 24-5 in your text). Using this antitrust legislation, Clinton and Reno succeeded in getting a federal district court decision to fine Microsoft $5 billion, and ordered it broken up into four separate companies. During my first semester of nursing school I had the opportunity to initiate IV therapy. My instructor was patient and overly positive. She had me verbally go through the steps prior to entering the patient’s room. When we entered the patient’s room, my instructor introduced me and told the patient that I had practice in starting IVs. During the procedure she stood by my side and talked me through each step. After the leaving the patient’s room she told me that I did very well and gave me some advice on where I could improve for next time.
The education setting was the hospital room. Her motivation strategy was to give positive reinforcement. The learning theory used for this situation was through passive agents. The delivery of the content was verbal/auditory and kinesthetic. This was my favorite and most respected instructed due to her style of teaching.

You are right, we play right into the sterotypes that they push on us and it is what is pushed by the media. what I find through trying to create a mentoring program within the black community is that it is hard for us to even stick together when there is no sense of unity amongst us. We will support any other race but our own.
Every few years we have these outbursts that makes America and other countries aware (again) of the racial tension in America, the 40s there was Marcus Garvey- the 60s there was Malcom X & Martin Luther King Jr. on, every few years the black communities in America uprise and revolt against the injustices and then are lulled back into conformity. Are we going to do that again? Because after us are our little cousins/ nieces/ nephews and then soon our own children.

Conflict
: Although we state we are an equal society, not everyone has the same life chances (Weber). Some events may have given this man less opportunity or some structures of society deny him opportunity. We should correct the contradictions and find a way to help this member of the society. However, others may argue that he has plenty of opportunity and is not trying (probably a functionalist).
Symbolic Interaction
: What symbols and meanings are in play? Why do I think one man is homeless? Dress? Demeanor? What symbols and meanings is the “yelling man” using? What does this tell me about myself and society? SI is about how we interpret our world. Culture (material and non-material) and socialization as well as social control are important contributors when we think, react, and behave.
Your observation paper should contain this type of analysis but to a greater degree.

My strategies towards teaching have a strong foundation in the constructivist theory, which perceives learning as an active process through which learners construct new meaning and knowledge based on their present and past experiences

. I hold the belief that genuine learning occurs when the educator keeps the lines of communication open and provides immediate feedback to the learner in a caring and non-threatening manner. I also strive to promote and encourage collaboration among students, as I believe this will enhance the capacity of all individuals to learn.
In addition, as a nursing educator, I am aware that learners bring to the clinical and classroom setting many differing talents, life experiences and learning styles. Therefore, I aspire to customize and tailor my teaching strategies to reflect the distinct needs of the learners. I believe that by using a variety of teaching approaches, I can be in a better position to meet the distinct learning needs of my diverse students and empower them to make a positive impact in the nursing profession. I am also a strong believer in bringing my enthusiasm and passion for nursing to the classroom setting.
Nonetheless, I must reiterate that apart from being a nurse educator, I am also an enthusiastic student with a strong believe that learning should be a life-long process. A major theory that has shaped my practice as an educator and a student is the Social Learning Theory advocated by Albert Bandura, which perceives learning to be a social activity
(Aliakbari, Parvin, Heidari, & Haghani, 2015)
. More importantly, I believe in being a positive role model so that I can make lasting impressions on my students and help to enhance their capacity to provide professional and culturally congruent care.

During my first semester of nursing school I had the opportunity to initiate IV therapy. My instructor was patient and overly positive. She had me verbally go through the steps prior to entering the patient’s room. When we entered the patient’s room, my instructor introduced me and told the patient that I had practice in starting IVs. During the procedure she stood by my side and talked me through each step. After the leaving the patient’s room she told me that I did very well and gave me some advice on where I could improve for next time.
The education setting was the hospital room. Her motivation strategy was to give positive reinforcement. The learning theory used for this situation was through passive agents. The delivery of the content was verbal/auditory and kinesthetic. This was my favorite and most respected instructed due to her style of teaching.
