2. FOCUS Assessment 2
With the understanding of what our career focus is. The evaluations given measure several
aspects of what my strengths weaknesses in both a work environment and leisure setting. These
measurements dictated a calculated measurement as to what it thinks would be an ideal fit in my
career goals based off of my strengths. The overall assumption is I have an enterprising
initiative. This is why it was surprising that my top careers given were; Biopsychologist,
Cardiologist, Family Practioner, Geographer, and Human Factors Psychologist. The majority of
these career fields entail a medical background far from an enterprising skill set.
After the assessment moving forward with the information I was given will add no
deviation to my goals academically. The strengths it said I possessed were not unknown to me
and the overall assumption of my possible career choices were very confusing. The steps I have
already put into place are ones that I plan to follow in venue more comfortable to my own goals
of career choice. The overall assessments did provide value as far as reinforcing my own insights
to my aptitude for preference. My goals however are to finish my degree in University Studies
and possible pursue a masters degree in University Studies and gain an internship while doing
so. The areas of interest are in Public Relations and Leadership and Development. This main
areas of study are very well suited to my own entrepreneurial endeavors in a photography
business. My failsafe is to have a collection of academics that would support me out in a career
field in the event of the photography business not providing a sustainable living income. The

University Studies degree would then serve to purpose as an aide in gaining a job that would be
able to provide a sustainable income to live off of.
The nature of a degree in University Studies, is to draw connections between three
different areas of concentration. These three different areas are what is to be combined into one
synergistic effort at solving real world problems, or to gain insight from multiple perspectives.
The three areas of my focus are Public Relations, Leadership and Development, and Mass
Communications with an emphasis on Electronic Media and Communications. These three
combined ideally creates a strong case for a media publicist in multiple genres of
communications. Ideally in my case it would bolster a entrepreneurial venture into self
enterprising a business. However despite my own academic insights the results of the FOCUS
assessments would say otherwise. Four out of the five top career choices are in the medical field
and the fifth is in geography. Now while the assessment says they follow suite with my skills, I
do not see the relation to my goals. My own academic criteria for a desirable career goal do not
match that of what the FOCUS stated would or should match for me. Overall I feel that the
strengths and skills it listed were accurate, however the utilization of those assets was not so
close.
Overall the concluding goal for me is to be aware that my skills are definitively mine to
utilize to the best of my abilities. And I know have credible evidence to state what they are and it
is up to me to understand how to cultivate them to benefit me. As far as the actual career choices

the assessment provided. While they may not necessarily be what I was going for, they do
provide an insight to a potential career field I may not have ever known existed to me.
