The document discusses the 1-4-3-3 formation, including its rationale, basic forms, and defensive principles for each line of players. It is designed to create balanced positioning and support effective passing, combination play, and attacking variety. The formation has two basic forms - with the "point" midfielder in an advanced or deeper position. Defensive duties for each line emphasize maintaining structure, covering zones, and transitioning smoothly.

This document discusses the 5 C's of goalkeeping psychology: Commitment, Communication, Concentration, Confidence, and Control. Each C is defined and international goalkeepers provide quotes about their importance. Commitment involves working hard to improve and renewing effort after goals. Communication requires organizing defenders and providing feedback. Concentration means maintaining the right positions and awareness. Confidence means believing in your abilities and having positive body language. Control involves responding well to mistakes and maintaining composure. Developing these 5 C's can help goalkeepers achieve international success like Manuel Neur and Gianluigi Buffon.
This document discusses Tactical Periodization, a football training methodology created by Vitor Frade. It is based on scientific principles from various fields and combines theory and practice. The methodology divides training into a weekly and seasonal cycle to develop a team's unique game style. It focuses on quality over quantity and uses principles of complexity, propensities, and horizontal alternation of specificity. The standard morfocycle outlines the weekly pattern of a match, recovery, and acquisition to ensure physical and tactical progression while allowing recovery.
This document outlines the methodology used to produce the ECA Report on Youth Academies in Europe. It involved qualitative and quantitative research including site visits to youth academies of ECA member clubs to examine their visions, infrastructure, and technical approaches. Surveys of ECA members were also conducted to gather quantitative data on topics such as budgets, staffing, and player development. The report aims to provide a comprehensive mapping of youth development models across Europe through analysis of successful programs at different clubs.
The document provides guidance on developing soccer intelligence in youth players through small-sided games, including rules and variations for mini-soccer games involving teams of 3 or 4 players on a small field. It explains how mini-soccer can help players improve technical skills and decision-making through repeated exposure to game situations, and encourages coaches to ask questions to stimulate critical thinking rather than just giving instructions. A variety of mini-soccer games are described that focus on skills like passing, shooting, and maintaining positional structure during attacks.
"The Roadmap to International Success" - FFA National Curriculum 2013Fundação Real Madrid
The National Football Curriculum aims to fundamentally transform the way football is played and coached in Australia. It advocates for a shift away from an overemphasis on results at the youth level and adopting a more proactive, possession-based style inspired by top international teams. The curriculum is intended to benefit player development from the grassroots level up by focusing on skill acquisition and allowing young players to learn through their experiences on the field rather than undue pressure. FFA believes this style aligns with the Australian sporting mentality and is necessary for the country to maintain its standing internationally against rapidly developing football nations.
This document discusses conditioning aspects in developing a soccer playing style. It begins by introducing Peter van Dort and his role as an instructor for UEFA coaching courses and the Dutch national youth teams. It then discusses defining characteristics of soccer and outlines the Dutch philosophy of "soccer training is conditioning." It describes the key team functions of attacking, defending, and transitioning between the two. It emphasizes developing soccer-specific skills and fitness through practice drills and periodization over developing general athleticism. The goal is to train players in the tactical and technical aspects of the sport to help their team achieve the aim of winning.
This document provides 15 warm-up exercises for football players developed by Kevin Thelwell, Academy Manager at Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club. The warm-ups incorporate dynamic stretching, passing drills, and movements to gradually increase intensity and prepare players for training. They focus on developing speed, strength, power and involve movements like jogging, lunges, leg swings and ball work in small and large groups. The warm-ups can be modified in levels of difficulty and include progressions to challenge players.
UEFA B Licence Tutorial 2 - Midfield Support Component 2Max Rogers
This document outlines a 7v7 plus one floating player small-sided game drill focusing on midfield support. The field is divided into three zones, with specific rules for player movement and scoring. The drill aims to develop behaviors like midfielders entering the attacking zone and playing penetrating passes. A pattern of play is also described to practice releasing a central midfielder through strategic off-ball runs and passes in three phases.
Pressing is a collective defensive tactic aimed at disrupting the opposition's build-up play and regaining possession as high up the field as possible. It requires pressure on the ball carrier to deny time and passing options, as well as cutting off forward passing lanes and forcing lateral or backward passes. Effective pressing relies on predefined pressing zones and triggers, as well as compactness, communication, and limiting the opposition's playing options. The type of pressing employed depends on the team's style of play and player attributes.

again a very useful post, both your's and the one in the comment above
me :D ...
but these attributes (many more actually) can also be found in player
instructions on the tactics screen.. for each role you might set for a
player...
Chris Harrison Says: 5 April 2010 14:55
Bit of a silly post in my opinion, all these attributes are pretty obvious. If
you don't know that a pacey striker needs good finishing, composure
and speed, then you shouldn't be playing FM...
Thomas Says: 5 April 2010 15:55
No i disagree with Chris Harrison , I'm perfectly good at FM ( i got
swindon to the europa league semi-final by 2016) but i still found it
difficult to decide what mental attributes are necessary. Also where you
have written attacking midfielder central, you wrote (DMC) by the way :)
Mohd Says: 5 April 2010 22:48
yes.. i'm agree wif thomas..
it really a good info & knowledge.. hope vitaly can add "The Best Role"
for every position..for example:
Quick Forwards (FC) - Pocher
3. Finishing, Composure, Pace, Acceleration, Dribbling
McGeady (CRO) Says: 6 April 2010 00:37
yeah i could really use a good "roles guide".. especially for the strikers.. i
always set them as advanced forwards and it seems to be working, but
still...
the other positions are much easier to set though...
p.s. trequartista for AMC is a killer :DD
Andrew Says: 6 April 2010 17:14
very good roles
i've never really taken in to account the ''teamwork''
and it's helped me a lot
thanks, vitaliy!
PS is teamwork essential for a youth player? and how do you improve
teamwork with training?
Gaz Says: 6 April 2010 19:25

Thomas,
thanks, I've fixed the problem :)

Plz read the older posts first then comment. This was asked to be
posted by few followers of the blog. Why do you find things silly when
someone is giving valuable tips to the others.
Chris Harrison Says: 7 April 2010 21:44
I've been following this blog on and off for ages. All I'm saying if you are
good at FM, you won't need to read this article because it's stating the
obvious.
dwaipayan Says: 8 April 2010 12:54
At Chris Harrison:
I agree it's stating the obvious for us. But not everyone been playing FM
blog on and off for ages. Few may be new to football world too.
Vitaliy Mokosiy Says: 11 April 2010 10:40
Yep, not for everyone. Some guys asked me to make this post. And it
wasn't complicated to write some kind of short tutorial about key
attributes for each position.
Experienced FM gamers doesn't need this information, of course.
zendor32 Says: 11 April 2010 13:10
4. Well, ideal attributes is not necessarily the same with everybody. It
depends primarily of what strategy you want to do.
If you are going for a more attacking build, you will want your left and
right backs to be able to cross, pass and have creativity. However if you
are into more defense, heading, tackling and marking is needed.
So see what is your kind of strategy and fit the attributes into it.
Gaz Says: 13 April 2010 21:21

Pablo Says: 20 May 2010 23:32
First of all, sorry for my english :D lol
I dont agree with ur post because withing the same position, u may look
to give different rolls to that player.. (example, pirlo and gattuso play in
the same position, but are VERY different)
Being extremist, thre r not "basic" attributes to any position, so I think it
is better to give attributes acordingto the role, and not to the position:
GOALKEEPERS (if u use a high defense line and fast defenders): need
high rushing out, one on ones, decisions and positioning.
GOALKEEPERS (if u use deep defense line, with slow defenders): Aerial
ability, decisions, comand of area, positioning, reflexes, tendendy to
punch (or high handling)
Zonal CB Acceletation, tackling, anticipation, positioning, concentration,
jumping
Marking CB Positioning, marking, anticipation, strenght, concentration,
tackling.
if u need some other advice add me to MSN: elpablo54@hotmail.com
hope it helps.
Manunitedftw Says: 31 August 2010 18:31
i think Full backs/Wingbacks need pretty good crossing to support the
wingers if you look at players like Wayne Bridge they have a high
crossing attribute :P
