Samsung Gear, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Hololens, Magic Leap... And so on, we could literally spend hours here listing these
devices.

Whenever these technologies are shown or predicted, we think of something negative, where we may be isolated beings playing and
interacting with things that do not even exist. The Black Mirror series has shown a lot of that, movies have portrayed many chaotic scenarios -
Matrix, Her, Uncanny Valley - our mother has warned her since we were kid when she talked about dropping the video game and playing in
the street.

8. But we think differently, and we believe that this may be, once again, as the internet was, a possibility of connecting people, where we can
maximize, expand and multiply our capacities, causing us to achieve things that we do not even think are possible.

And one of the paths we believe to have been exponentially enhanced by these technologies is something well known today: Flow.

10. FLOW is a term from Psychology defining when we are so focused on an activity that we forget time, hunger, fatigue, anything other than
what we are doing.

11. For example, when I'm so involved doing a design, I forget everything, the noise around, the time passes, the whole world around me.

They are activities that gave meaning to their lives and make them happy. The researchers hypothesis is that getting into the flow
and reaching for the maximum would be one of our purposes in life. After all everyone wants to be happy, or feel happy.

But what does it have to do with Virtual/Augmented Reality?

18. This is a TED Talks video from 2004, in which Mihaly describes how a pianist and composer who
was part of the research in the 70's felt in a state of flow:
“He needs just a piece of paper where he can put down little marks, and as he does that, he can
imagine sounds that had not existed before in that particular combination. So even he gets to
that point of beginning to create, like Jennifer did in her improvisation, a new reality - that is, a
moment of ecstasy - he enters that different reality. Now, I say that this is an intense experience
that it feels almost as if it did not exist.”
The term other reality, alternative reality, appears about 20 times in the descriptions of those
surveyed by Mihaly in the video.

But we know that it is not so easy. This state of flow is addictive. Anyone that plays video games knows that you get easily carried
away, entering these states and always want more. And it is much more addictive when you are in virtual reality, where we lose
the notion of the world around in every way. But this way we hit the flow passively.

Creating these tools also has another positive side: it creates connections. Instead of isolating yourself in VR, we may be
creating together. And studies indicate that entering states of flow together is far superior to entering alone.
