Vandita Raj conducted an experiment to identify an unknown organic substance. She mixed the substance with resorcinol crystals, then added concentrated sulfuric acid and gently heated the mixture. The solution was then poured into cold water and sodium hydroxide was added, producing an intense greenish yellow fluorescence. This allowed her to infer that the unknown substance was a dicarboxylic acid.
