Paul Cross presented on GreenScene Agritek's mission to provide a sustainable solution to the growing horse manure crisis. Their patented process turns used horse bedding into premium recycled wood fiber bedding at their facility. This addresses regulations around manure disposal and provides a cheaper and eco-friendly alternative to traditional bedding for farmers. GreenScene plans to open a facility in Florida to serve the large equine industry in the region and help address manure management issues faced by communities like Wellington.
2. Why we do what we do
We were in search of a more sustainable bedding that
would have a healthier impact on our land
Offering Farm owners a better product, through a better
process, closer to the source and at a competitive price
It turned out to be so much more – We discovered “all
manures are not created equal.” Millions of tons of waste
wood fibre or ‘horse manure’ with 80% wood fibre are
being inadequately disposed of and are piling up around
us.
Its’ contaminates that are entering our land, air and
water are causing numerous health concerns for our
children and the next generation, If not resolved.

3. Our Mission
Legal dumpsites are over burdened and illegal dump sites are
common.
The EPA is inadequately equipped to clamp down on illegal
dumping and water contamination
Just because we can use inadequate disposal methods, does
not mean we should… We must challenge this status quo, by
creating sustainable solutions to the problem.
Our premium, local region specific, product - refined “golden”
bedding, is a direct response to solving the waste
management crisis. It is a better sustainable product, built
using local carbon neutral eco-plants within 30 miles of its
neighborhood farms.
Join us in our mission, because you can, to use a better
bedding in a cleaner world.

5. Great horse manure crisis of
1894
This was not just a British crisis: New York had a population of 100,000 horses
producing around 2.5m pounds of manure a day.
The Times newspaper predicted... “In 50 years, every street in London will be buried
under nine feet of manure.”
In1898 London and New York got together to discuss how to solve the crisis. It was
the world’s first international urban planning conference, but no solution could be
found. It seemed urban civilisation was doomed.
What Adverted the crisis: The invention of the affordable motor car. Henry Ford came
up with a process of building motor cars at affordable prices.
Electric trams and motor buses appeared on the streets, replacing the horse-drawn
buses.
By 1912, this seemingly insurmountable problem had been resolved; in cities all
around the globe, horses had been replaced and now motorised vehicles were the
main source of transport and carriage

6. why is the crisis recurring
A 100 years later horses are now used in Polo, Dressage, Jumping, Racing & Western
Rodeo for sport and pleasure
We see high density ~ high populous areas of horses and humans living around
boarding stables, race tracks, and show grounds; creating thousands of tons of
manure every month.
There are 12,000 STALLS in Wellington and twice that in the surrounding areas
There are 500,000 horses in the State of Florida
There are 10,00,000 horses in North America
There are 59,000,000 horses in the world
When a horse is stabled it creates a ton of used bedding a month
Where do you put 59,000,000 tons of manure a month!!!!

7. Horse Populous in USA
private and confidential january 2015
North America has an estimated 9,200,000 total horse population(THP).
Over 3.5 million race horses and show horses combined.
The state of Florida has 500,000 Total Horse Population*
Wellington has 9-12,000 Stalls equating to 120,000 tons of bedding a year
Local hauler T.A. Steinman removes 125 tones of used bedding per day in season
Florida Facility will displace around 20% of existing bedding sales within the region.
There are 40 regions throughout the USA that have 20,000 horses within county lines

8. Bedding quality and quantity
GreenScene uses a proprietary grading system for calculating horses within the sales &
marketing model.
Horses can be categorized as “pets” (expensive ones) and depending on the level of comfort
required in a stall the bedding, manure, and cost is variable.

9. City of Wellington
They have a crisis in Manure management BMP’s
They have no way to monitor where the manure is going
Michael O’Dell was mandated to come up with some
options - but they are thin ( slides attached)
Paul Schofield and Mike O’Dell want our project up and
running so they can show a solution has been found
The EPA has mandated they remove the manure
properly, that Phosphorus leaching is not in the land or
waterways.
GreenScene Agritek S.Florida Plant is the solution.

13. Horse manure the naked truth
Horses have a single stomach and can not throw up
Horses create a fecal powder around undigested hay and grass
for excretion and is relatively dry
Wood fibre Bedding makes up 70-90% of the “manure” which
becomes soaked in urine.
Horse manure however has little nutrient value when mixed
with wood fibre.
While the horse manure itself is a good fertilizer, the sawdust
and wood shavings are not crop friendly. That's because when
wood breaks down in the soil, it requires nitrogen and a
nitrogen deficiency occurs, which stunts the growth of crops.
Used bedding left unattended can cause methane off gassing,
leaching and phosphorous hot spot leading to diseases, flies,
and environmental hazards. Plus huge pile of….
Horse owners and equestrian business need to have a better
handle on their manure storage with covered bins, frequent
hauling and removal practices, all in accordance with
regulations, and legal dumping sites.
private and confidential January 2015
14. agricultural waste control regulation
In the rainy season Manure must be covered at all
times
New storage facilities require covered roof, walls
and impermeable floor, and 30 meter setback
distance from watercourses, if storage is longer
than 2 weeks
No direct access to waterways
Horse Manure is not to be spread on fields
Horse Manure is not to be put into landfill
Regulations from the EPA throughout America are
getting strong and tighter and disposal options are
diminishing.
Horse owners need to consider what regulations
they have to live with”
private and confidential January 2015
15. horse manure avg per 1000 lb horse
31 lbs of feces + 2.4 gallons of urine = 51 lbs of manure
8-15lb bedding + 51lbs of manure = 3 cubic ft of stall waste per day
private and confidential January 2015
16. pain
Horse owners in North America spends >
$4.5 billion per year in bedding materials
and manure disposal costs.
The industry is facing a growing shortage
of affordable wood fibre bedding material.
while facing the added challenge of strict
environmental regulations, that is forcing
the equine industry to spend more money
on their horses in a tight economy.
solution
GSA has perfected a patented and proprietary
closed-loop process to produce premium recycled
wood fibre equine bedding that is cheaper, faster
on demand delivery with a higher ROI than
current baled shavings
Reducing bedding disposal costs while eliminating
environmental concerns, such as landfills, off-
gassing & leaching. Producing a competitive,
superior recycled bedding under local conditions.
A product that improves horse and human health
through a better process and a better bedding.

17. hauling regulations
GreenScene is the solution to the
haulers with the ability to transfer
their waste to an approved facility in
closer proximity than alternative
licensed disposal sites.
The process will save haulers money
on transportation, allow for multiple
trips in a day, have a safe and
consistent drop off location, and
potentially regulate tipping fees.
A proprietary inventory control
process is being developed to help all
haulers, authorities and GreenScene
know where they pick up and drop off
manure, how much and what quality
of bedding is being picked up.

20. GSA Florida & Delta
GreenScene has the first commercial operating
plant at Crescent Stables. Delta, Vancouver
Canada. The adjacent land was used as a
Research plant over the past 4 years and as of Feb
2015 GSA was awarded the right to run a
commercial operation on Agricultural land. It
currently services the 65 stalls at Crescent Stables
and other local farms.
The Florida Plant model is the GSA-2000 processing
approx. yearly 26,000 wet tons or 2 million cubic
yards of bedding per shift from 2000-5000 horses.
This creates up to 800,000 bales of compressed
bedding double shift., retailing at competitive local
pricing.
A double shift will be required and can run in the
core season or all year round.

21. GSA Florida sustainability
The GSA bedding product is branded
“Refined” Golden HABIT Bedding (High
Absorbent Bedding Intentionally Treated)
and is cleaner and safer than the original.
It can be recycled multiple times and by
adding 10-20% new shavings to the outgoing
supply, the bedding can be recycled
indefinitely.
The bi-product of organics and wood fines
are separated and used as the fuel source to
run a carbon neutral facility.
And as a sustainable initiative it combats the
two major global problems, good quality
bedding and increasing cost of disposal.
