2. Last Season The Gators are the 2008 National Champions!! They went 13-1, smoking rivals Florida State (45- 15), Tennessee (30-6), and LSU (51-21). However, accompanying this myriad of victories was the neck and neck extra point loss to Ole Miss. On September 27, 2008, the Gators lost by one point to Ole Miss for the 2nd consecutive time. After the game, Tim Tebow made a speech apologizing to the Gator Nation, and promising to do better. Last season’s schedule is copied below. 3. Players- Tim Tebow Tim Tebow is the quarter back of the Florida Gators. He was born in the Phillippenes to Pam and Bob Tebow, who do missionary work there. He grew up in Jacksonville, and often aides his parents in their work. He is the first junior ever to win the Heisman Trophy (2007). Next year, Tebow will be a senior.
4. Championships In 1996, Florida beat Florida State 52-20 at the Sugar Bowl. In 2006, Florida beat Ohio State 41-14 at the Fiesta Bowl. Last season, Florida beat Oklahoma 24-14 at the Orange Bowl.
5. The Future Most starting players are coming back next season, excluding a few seniors (Louis Murphy, etc.) and Percy Harvin, who went into pro football, and was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings. Many players, including Tim Tebow are shooting for an undefeated year this season, which would be yet another first for the Florida Gators.
